Pro-Life America
On today’s edition of Family Talk, co-host Gary Bauer concluded his 2-day discussion with Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America. They discussed all that has happened since Roe v. Wade was overturned in June of 2022. Marjorie explained several areas within her organization, SBA Pro-Life America, that have materialized, grown and developed as the years have gone by, especially since June, 2022. First, they realized the need to support elected pro-life officials at every level of government in terms of clinical research and expertise. So, the Charlotte Lozier Institute was developed. It is that research arm which provides close to 100 credentialed experts from top universities and every medical field who can testify all over the country in legislatures and in the federal government. Or simply provide education and counsel to decision makers and influencers.
Secondly, they created a program called, “Her Plan” designed to support the woman who may appear at the doorstep of an abortion clinic thinking that is her only option. To address the needs of that female and her expectant child, the criteria of need and service is to tackle one or multiple of the seven most common points or reasons why a woman might be drawn to abortion in the first place, i.e., addiction, abuse, poverty or lack of financial means, unemployment, and education, just to name a few.
Marjorie added that perhaps the most powerful thing they have done is to create field teams who canvas states with tight races, going door to door talking face to face with people to encourage and educate them to vote the right way. She states what an enormous difference this has made in electing officials, be it in the state or federal legislature, the senate, executive branch, and influencing and winning key referendums.
In the final segment, Gary and Marjorie agreed that the pro-abortion organizations are going to now take the fight directly into battleground states, even into traditionally pro-life states such as OH and MI. They also warned of constitutional amendments being written into state constitutions that would ensure an abortion remain legal no matter what, based upon a new state charter. Marjorie and Gary agree that this is wrong. They suspect that pro-life states with a pro-life majority will vote out of office any politicians that are weak on this issue.
Marjorie describes the ground game moving forward as, in part, incrementalism. This means that a 15-week limit is most certainly acceptable by even most pro-feminists and moderates. She sees this movement as positive, and says her side is going to lean into it. She expands by calling this “The way of a beautiful witness, by non-judgmental people.” Marjorie claims that her organization is doing this in the spirit of the original feminists, people like Susan B. Anthony, working within the framework, of a “state of understanding.”
In closing, she summarized by saying, “The goal is to protect the natural bond between woman and child.” Gary’s last point was to ask her if she had any personal stories of women coming up to her and saying, “You changed my mind.” She answered yes, she has experienced that, but more importantly, she has many more memories of all the women caught in the middle that she has prayed for.
