When Suffering Becomes Strength and Undying Faith

December 22, 2022

During a period in which he survived eight cancer surgeries and the removal of 80 percent of his tongue, Dr. Gary Oliver buried his father, his son, his only sibling, and his wife in a span of just four years. Because of the suffering that Dr. Oliver endured, he has been called a “modern-day Job.” On today’s edition of Family Talk, he reveals that in the face of unspeakable grief, his lifeline has been gut-wrenchingly honest prayer. In return, God has given him an indescribable joy and peace.

Pro-life advocate Melissa Ohden never thought her life would have such a strong purpose or a silver lining. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Melissa, the founder of Abortion Survivors Network, recounts that she was miraculously born alive after an attempted late-term saline abortion failed to kill her. After her birth, Melissa was fortunately adopted by loving parents. As she grew older, she began a journey to reunite with her birth parents and offer forgiveness. Because of Melissa’s testimony, she is able to minister forgiveness and healing to others who have survived their own attempted abortions.

On today’s edition of Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson and Rabbi Jonathan Cahn continue discussing Rabbi Cahn’s new book, The Return of the Gods. You’ll hear more details about the Dark Trinity, comprised of Baal, Ishtar, and Molech. Following Baal, the god of apostasy, Ishtar, the goddess of sexual perversion has led America down a road of pornography and sexual immorality. Finally, just as Molech enticed ancient Israelites to sacrifice their children in the fire, we have sacrificed our children through the atrocity of abortion.

According to Rabbi Jonathan Cahn, America’s disturbing rejection of the one true God has opened the door for the return of the ancient gods. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson and Rabbi Cahn discuss the research and findings in his new book, The Return of the Gods. Rabbi Cahn explains that the presence of the Dark Trinity — comprised of Baal, Ishtar, and Molech—on American soil has led to our embrace of wicked practices. Ephesians 6:12 warns, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

According to research, 59 percent of all high school graduates leave the church. The statistic begs the question, “How can we help our children cultivate a faith of their own, and develop a personal relationship with the Lord?” On today’s edition of Family Talk, Dr. Tim Clinton and his guest, Hillary Morgan Ferrer, discuss her book, Mama BearApologetics: Empowering Your Kids to Challenge Cultural Lies. The world’s most potent lies are wrapped in partial truths. Hillary stresses the importance of teaching kids to think biblically. She believes this is crucial and empowers parents with the “ROAR” method in identifying and analyzing truth from fiction. Recognize the message. Offer discernment. Argue for a healthier approach. And finally, reinforce these ideas through discussion.

According to Ben Roethlisberger, “Football is not who I am, it’s what I do.” He spent the first four decades of his life becoming one of the greatest quarterbacks in football history. But for the next 40 years, he wants to further expand God’s kingdom. On today’s edition of Family Talk, the two-time Super Bowl champion and former quarterback of the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers highlights his favorite football moments and shares the importance of faith and family, and his plans for life in retirement, including the mission to start a new foundation. Standing 6 feet, 5 inches tall, “Big Ben” reveals that the manliest thing a dad can do is to be vulnerable with his kids.

On today’s edition of Family Talk, Dr. William Lile shares that in the fight against abortion, the battle for life is not just for God’s pre-born, but for the heart and soul of this nation. The “pro-life doc” points out that now is the time to be preparing the church and pro-life organizations for what’s to come, given that Roe v. Wade was overturned. He points to the irony that Congress penalizes those who disturb the freshly laid eggs of endangered sea turtles on the beach with a $100,000 fine, while a woman can terminate her pregnancy in any trimester with no legal repercussions. Dr. Lile states that every Christian, like the biblical Esther, must be prepared to become a voice for the voiceless “for such a time as this.”

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, 39% of all American abortions were the result of the abortion pill known as RU-486. Today, a shocking 54% of abortions occur through the deadly procedure. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Dr. William Lile discusses a resource that has rescued over 3,000 babies. After taking the lethal abortion pill, a mother can contact AbortionPillReversal.com, where trained professionals will offer support and outreach to potentially help save her baby. This could be through the prescription of the natural hormone progesterone, with the hope of preserving the pregnancy. The goal is to start treatment within the first 24 hours, but many successful reversals have occurred within the first 72 hours of taking the first set of pills.

In 1999, Dr. William Lile, also known as “the pro-life doc,” purchased the largest abortion practice in the Florida Panhandle. He immediately stopped all abortions and redesigned the practice, dedicating it to women and their babies’ health. On today’s edition of Family Talk, the obstetrician explains that he has two patients – the pregnant mother and her pre-born baby. With the advance of technology, Dr. Lile can perform life-saving surgeries on babies in the womb. Sadly, Christian medical students are being unfairly rejected as residents because of the evil, pro-abortion mentality of today’s medical industry.

On today’s edition of Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson and his guest, Christine Soule, continue discussing her life and her book, Broken and Beautiful. One Scripture that has been a platform for Christine’s life is Genesis 50:20, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” Indeed, the Lord has used her pain and brokenness to bring hope and healing to women and children who have walked a similar path. Christine urges believers to welcome those curious souls who are in pain and walk into the church but who do not look like them, because they are often searching for a place to belong.

Christine Soule’s family was beyond dysfunctional. Her father was married eight times and her mother was married four times. If that wasn’t hard enough, Christine’s adopted father had an affair with her sister and they ran off and got married. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Christine shares that her traumatic childhood led her down a dark path filled with pain, confusion and sin. Miraculously, at the age of 21, she came to know Jesus Christ and He turned her life around. Today, Christine is empowering other traumatized young women to make wise decisions through her Seattle ministry, Providence Heights.
