Walking in Victory - I

December 17, 2020

When we stumble in our Christian walk, we often blame others instead of recognizing the devil’s schemes against us. On this Family Talk broadcast, popular author and evangelist Priscilla Shirer talks about the spiritual warfare that surrounds us every day. She says that Satan “wants you to think that just because he's invisible, he's also fictional.” But he’s real, and you will see his fingerprints in the chaos, the strife, the jealousy, and the pride in your life. She teaches from Ephesians 6, and urges Christians to put on the full armor of God.

Bringing Up Boys
With so much confusion about the role of men in society, it’s no wonder we have questions about how to bring up boys in the right way. Why are so many young males in crisis? What qualities should we be instilling in our sons? The culture has vilified masculinity, and as a result, an entire generation of boys is growing up without a clear idea of what it means to be a man. To help parents confront this challenge, the Dr. James Dobson Family Institute has developed a new 10-day email series based on Dr. Dobson’s best-selling book, Bringing Up Boys. It’s designed to equip you to wisely lead your sons to become godly men.

Psalm 46 reminds us to “be still and know God,” a concept largely lost in the constant busyness of our culture. Dr. James Dobson talks with author John Eldredge about his new book Get Your Life Back: Everyday Practices for a World Gone Mad. He explains the dangers of a distracted, technology-addicted lifestyle and then suggests that we practice the “One Minute Pause,” along with soaking up God’s creation, and turning off our phones’ notifications.  As we unplug from “the fight or flight” culture, our stress-triggered cortisol levels go down, and we can begin to learn how to cast our cares upon the Lord.

If men didn’t grow up with fathers who validated and loved them, they will often turn to women and even porn to find that validation.  Dr. James Dobson talks with John Eldredge, author of the best-selling Wild at Heart, about the “father wound.”  A boy looks to his dad, asking, "Do I have what it takes? Can I be a man? Am I strong? Am I brave?” At the start of Jesus’ ministry, God the Father validated Him, saying, “This is my Son in whom I am well pleased.” Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted and set the captives free–and He can heal “the father wound” in the lives of men today.
