Life with a Messy Mate - III

August 5, 2022

One of the struggles that a married couple can face is when one spouse is clean and organized and the other is messy and disorganized. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Sandra Felton, author of When You Live with a Messie, says “messies” tend to be easygoing, fun-loving, and creative people. And these are generally good qualities. So then, how do you create a balance to offset the conflict of clean vs. messy? Felton, a reformed “messie” herself, addresses this, and answers questions from the studio audience on how to thrive despite the maylays of clutter.

What Is a Woman, According to God?
What is a woman? You might think that this is a simple question. In recent years, however, it has become as hard to answer for many people as an algebra problem, the kind some of us once sweated out in high school. Few topics have created more confusion and a firestorm of vitriol than the discussion of gender ideology. At the Dr. James Dobson Family Institute (JDFI), we understand parents are desperate for answers, and we want to help. A regular JDFI contributor, Dr. Owen Strachan, who is provost and research professor of theology at Grace Bible Theological Seminary, addresses the question of "What Is a Woman, According to God?" in his new essay. We wanted to make it easy to read and available to share with your family and friends, so we've designed it as a downloadable PDF.

According to Dr. Steve Farrar, America is in a moral free-fall. We are living off the spiritual capital of the past, but it's now coming to a halt. On today’s classic edition of Family Talk, Dr. Farrar says our country is in need of true revival. Much like the spiritual awakenings of the past, we need three things. An economic collapse to push us toward God, an outpouring of prayer, and the leadership of Christian men. Second Chronicles 16:9 says, “For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him.”

America has a leadership crisis. On today’s classic edition of Family Talk, Dr. Steve Farrar challenges men to understand three things that are true about our times. First, our Christian foundations are being destroyed. Second, biblical Truth has been rejected. And third, our country is overdue for God’s judgment. Dr. Farrar, the founder of Men’s Leadership Ministries, also stresses the need for genuine godly leadership in society today, and calls upon fathers to guide their children through the cultural fog.

For David Green and his son, Steve Green, family has always been a priority, and that value is something they pass on to their employees at Hobby Lobby. When the Affordable Care Act mandated that businesses provide contraceptives to their employees in 2012, the Greens refused to put a pre-born baby’s life in jeopardy, despite a threatened million-dollar-per-day penalty. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Steve Green, president of the beloved craft store, reveals that while they prayed that God would deliver them, like Daniel in the lion’s den, they were also prepared to suffer like Job. In 2014, God delivered them through their victorious Supreme Court ruling.

In 1970, David and Barbara Green took a $600 loan to make miniature picture frames to sell out of their home. Two years later, they opened their first store: Hobby Lobby. Today, Hobby Lobby has nearly one thousand stores and over forty thousand employees across the United States. On today’s edition of Family Talk, David Green and his son, Steve Green, explain how they see retail as an avenue for ministry. David also expounds upon his conviction to give away large sums of Hobby Lobby’s profit, keep the stores closed on Sundays, and place Christ-centered, full-page newspaper ads on Christmas and Easter. Steve, who became president of Hobby Lobby in 2004, affirms God’s call on the Green family to be wise stewards and bold evangelists in all of their endeavors.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders has often been asked, “What was the best preparation for being the White House press secretary? Her answer is simple: Being a mom. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Sarah, who was the first mother to take the podium as press secretary, explains she had already mastered the art of repeating herself, saying “no” a lot, and needing the patience of Job to get through each morning talking with reporters. She also shares how her family and faith in God kept her grounded during her time in the White House, and inspired her to make a difference.

Throughout history, the biblical book of Genesis was considered an accurate and reliable record, but over the past 250 years, it has become one of the most controversial books of all time. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson and Dr. Del Tackett, creator of The Truth Project, continue discussing Del’s film, “Is Genesis History?,” and the evidence for creation. As part of his research for the film, Dr. Tackett interviewed several field scientists and geologists who point to the fact that evidence of the Genesis flood is present throughout the world.

Genesis 1:1 says, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” Sadly, a large percentage of the Christian community does not believe that Genesis is true history. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson and Dr. Del Tackett, the creator of The Truth Project, discuss Del’s documentary film, “Is Genesis History?,” and examine the scientific evidence for creation. They also review the most important biblical truth: that just as sin and death entered the world through one man, Adam, salvation and God’s grace came through one man, Jesus Christ.

Shannon Bream grew up memorizing Scripture while enrolled in Awana. Her mother first taught her Philippians 2:3, which says, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility, value others above yourselves.” With God’s providence, after graduating from college and law school, and then struggling as a young lawyer, Shannon persevered in her quest to ‘value others above herself,’ culminating in her landing a plum job as host of Fox News @ Night. In this public forum, Shannon engages viewers and the culture each night to defend truth and righteousness. On today’s edition of Family Talk, she talks to Dr. Tim Clinton about her previous stage fright, her husband’s brain tumor, and her new book, The Mothers and Daughters of the Bible Speak, highlighting life lessons from mothers and daughters in Scripture.
