As we reflect on the history of our great nation, it's hard not to be in awe of the vision, courage, and tenacity of our American Founders. These remarkable men risked everything they had to create a new form of government that would safeguard individual freedom and guarantee the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness for generations to come. Over the next five days, the Dr. James Dobson Family Institute (JDFI) will be honoring five of our nation’s 55 Founders (those individuals who attended the Constitutional Convention in 1787). Their wisdom and experience was derived from their ardent faith in God. We hope the brief summaries about the lives of these great men will inspire you to reflect on the values that have made America great.

Believers in the 21st century are engaged in a fierce fight against a wicked culture and the plots of the devil. Today as Family Talk revisits another “2020 Best of Broadcast,” you will hear how we can have victory in our lives with the help of Jesus. Today author and evangelist Priscilla Shirer addresses the spiritual war that is being fought for our souls.  She warns that Satan “preys on lazy, apathetic Christians.” Listen to the importance of putting on the full armor of God, especially “the breastplate of righteousness,” and commit to “right living,” that invites the favor of God on your life.

When we stumble in our Christian walk, we often blame others instead of recognizing the devil’s schemes against us. On this Family Talk broadcast, popular author and evangelist Priscilla Shirer talks about the spiritual warfare that surrounds us every day. She says that Satan “wants you to think that just because he's invisible, he's also fictional.” But he’s real, and you will see his fingerprints in the chaos, the strife, the jealousy, and the pride in your life. She teaches from Ephesians 6, and urges Christians to put on the full armor of God.

Psalm 46 reminds us to “be still and know God,” a concept largely lost in the constant busyness of our culture. Dr. James Dobson talks with author John Eldredge about his new book Get Your Life Back: Everyday Practices for a World Gone Mad. He explains the dangers of a distracted, technology-addicted lifestyle and then suggests that we practice the “One Minute Pause,” along with soaking up God’s creation, and turning off our phones’ notifications.  As we unplug from “the fight or flight” culture, our stress-triggered cortisol levels go down, and we can begin to learn how to cast our cares upon the Lord.
