Defending the Religious and Civil Rights of the Defenseless - I

April 25, 2022

Despite the fact that the church and Christian values are in the crosshairs of an increasingly godless culture, there is still hope. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Brad Dacus (DAY-kus), president of Pacific Justice Institute, reminds us that the previous administration’s judicial appointments provide a balance of power. Specifically, the Supreme Court is demonstrably in favor of life, parental rights, and religious liberty. As a non-profit legal defense organization, Pacific Justice Institute has 20 offices in 16 states, and represents Christians free of charge whenever their God-given rights are infringed upon.

When most people think of getting fit, they focus exclusively on strengthening their physical bodies. But, on today’s edition of Family Talk, Dr. Walt Larimore points to the importance of another kind of strength training through the pursuit of a healthy life balance – relationally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Dr. Larimore stresses the value of healthy eating but also underscores the need to read the Bible, forgive others, spend time outdoors, and volunteer.

Scripture is clear that we honor God when we take care of the bodies He entrusted to us. 1 Corinthians 6:19 says, “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God?” On today’s edition of Family Talk, Dr. Walt Larimore, author of Fit Over 50, explains that your life is like a car with four wheels. If one of them goes flat, the whole car wobbles. This respected family doctor, who faithfully practiced medicine in order to help others, explains that your four health “wheels” are spiritual, emotional, relational, and physical.

What equipped Kayleigh McEnany to answer the tough questions as the White House press secretary? She studied politics at Georgetown and Oxford, received a Harvard law degree, and was an unapologetic Christian. On today’s edition of Family Talk, the author of For Such a Time as This explains that Jesus Christ was her rock as she daily sparred with a hostile White House press. Her academic training and faith empowered her to navigate the COVID pandemic, the riots, and the contentious 2020 presidential election. Kayleigh’s life verse, 2 Corinthians 4:17, says, “For your light and momentary troubles are achieving for you a greater glory that will outweigh them all.”

Do you believe, as Psalm 127 declares, that children are a gift from God? If so, does that include allowing Him to determine the size of your family? On today’s edition of Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson continues his discussion with Randy and Marcia Hekman, who believe the fundamental truth that their 12 kids are God’s children, even though they gave birth to them and raised them. Despite culture’s casual approach to abortion and birth control, because God is sovereign, is it possible that He might want to bless the world with more Christ-following children through you?

Jeremiah 1:5 says, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born, I set you apart.” On today’s classic edition of Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson met with Randy and Marcia Hekman to discuss the calling that God placed on their hearts to have children - a lot of children! The Hekmans recount the message from our Creator to stop trying to limit the number of children they would have and be open to the Lord’s plans. The result? Randy and Marcia are the proud parents of 12 children.

When the Apostle Paul encouraged the believers in Philippi to "rejoice in the Lord always,” and to “be anxious for nothing,” he wasn’t writing in ideal circumstances. In fact, he was under house arrest in Rome. He had also survived being whipped, shipwrecked, and stoned. On today’s Good Friday edition of Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson reminds us that Jesus said, "If anyone would come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.” Like Paul, we need to learn the secret of contentment by trusting God no matter the circumstance.

In your marriage, which one of you is the financial saver? And which one is the spender? And what about intimacy? Is there one who prefers more time together in the bedroom than the other? On today’s edition of Family Talk, Christian researcher Shaunti Feldhahn advises listeners on what these common marital squabbles are really about. Oddly enough, they’re not about money or sex. Rather, the tension often results from spouses’ different fears and values, and that can lead to resentment, bruised egos and feelings of rejection.

According to Dr. James Dobson, Ken Hutcherson was a man’s man who didn’t back down from a fight. On today’s edition of Family Talk, one of Dr. Dobson’s dearest ministry friends expresses his commitment to Jesus in different seasons of his life, including going toe-to-toe with Microsoft. When the tech giant urged Washington state legislators to adopt radical homosexual policies, the former NFL linebacker took a righteous stand. He states, “I believe that God has called us to be warriors.” Ultimately, Hutcherson lived his life to please an audience of One, his Savior, Jesus Christ.

Ken Hutcherson was born a week after his mother’s 15th birthday in rural Alabama. While growing up in an environment of deep racism, of which he experienced hatred first hand, Ken developed his own disdain toward others. Fortunately, as a young man, he was able to take his anger out on the football field. On today’s edition of Family Talk, the late pastor of Antioch Bible Church shares how God inspired him to use the Bible as his real life playbook, and how it motivated him to take bold stands against injustice, abortion, and homosexuality.

On today’s edition of Family Talk, Tony Evans, senior pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, proclaims that God is not colorblind. Nor is He blinded by color. The Lord does not want the racial distinctives that He created to be the ultimate source of our identity. The answer to today’s racial division? The church can model biblical reconciliation and unity through service, not seminars or soundbites. Each of us must recognize that everyone is created in God’s image.
