Many teenage girls and women wish they had a better relationship with their dads. For a Christian, Thanksgiving should be a lot more than just food, family, and football. On today’s special edition of Family Talk, Pastor Chuck Swindoll, in a timeless sermon on the topic gratitude, reflects on Psalm 103, in which King David thanks God for pardoning his sin, redeeming his life from the pit, and crowning him with love and compassion. The hymn “It Is Well with My Soul” reveals why we are so grateful. “My sin, not in part but the whole; Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more; Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!” That’s true redemption indeed!

When Kansas State All-American offensive lineman Dalton Risner was asked by a prospective NFL team what his priorities would be as a professional football player, he responded, “Jesus Christ, family, and football,” in that order. On today’s edition of Family Talk, the star athlete, who has found a home with the Denver Broncos, says that he puts his faith over fear. He even has some of his favorite Bible verses tattooed on his arms, including Psalm 37:5, which says, “Commit your way to the Lord.” Risner’s desire is to use the NFL platform to spread God’s Word through love and kindness.

At six feet, five inches tall and weighing 300 plus pounds, there’s a reason why Denver Broncos offensive lineman Dalton Risner is called “Moose.” On today’s edition of Family Talk, listeners will get a sneak peek into the self-discipline that enabled this 26-year-old Christian to make it in the NFL. His life verse is First Peter 4:10, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace.” The author of an inspirational children’s book entitled Rise Up, Dalton credits Jesus, along with his college coach, and his tough-as-nails dad for his success.

Did you know that every year, over 20,000 youth between the ages of 18 and 21 leave the foster care system without finding a forever home? Sadly, there are more than 400,000 kids in foster care in the U.S., waiting to find a family. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Dr. Dobson sits down with Billy Jack and Anne Barrett, as well as J.R. and Reyna Keller, who tell how God has honored their sacrificial willingness to open their homes. Reyna shared that when she asked her sixteen-year-old son about what he’s learned while adjusting to a new younger sibling, he replied, “Love is a choice and an action.” Indeed, it takes years of unconditional, Christ-like love for these wounded foster care kids to move forward from their painful pasts.

Especially if parents are adopting older foster care kids, many of whom have suffered trauma in their past. Family Talk is a Christian non-profit organization located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Founded in 2010 by Dr. James Dobson, the ministry promotes and teaches biblical principles that support marriage, family, and child-development. About Dr. James Dobson

Dr. James Dobson is the Founder and President of Family Talk, a nonprofit organization that produces his radio program, "Dr. James Dobson's Family Talk." He is the author of more than 30 books dedicated to the preservation of the family, including The New Dare to Discipline, Love for a Lifetime, Life on the Edge, Love Must Be Tough, The New Strong-Willed Child, When God Doesn't Make Sense, Bringing Up Boys, Marriage Under Fire, Bringing Up Girls, Head Over Heels and, most recently, Your Legacy: The Greatest Gift.


Dr. Dobson served as an associate clinical professor of pediatrics at the University of Southern California School of Medicine for 14 years and on the attending staff of Children's Hospital of Los Angeles for 17 years. He has been active in governmental affairs and has advised five U.S. presidents on family matters. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Southern California (1967) in the field of child development. He holds 17 honorary doctoral degrees, and was inducted in 2008 into The National Radio Hall of Fame. Dr. Dobson recently received the following awards: Winston Churchill Lifetime Achievement Award from the Faith & Freedom Coalition (2017), Daniel Award from AZ Christian University (2016), and the Defender of Life Award from the Justice Foundation (2015).


Dr. Dobson is married to Shirley and they have two grown children, Danae and Ryan, and two grandchildren. The Dobsons reside in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
