Broken and Beautiful: Let God Turn Your Mess into a Masterpiece - II

December 9, 2022

On today’s edition of Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson and his guest, Christine Soule, continue discussing her life and her book, Broken and Beautiful. One Scripture that has been a platform for Christine’s life is Genesis 50:20, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” Indeed, the Lord has used her pain and brokenness to bring hope and healing to women and children who have walked a similar path. Christine urges believers to welcome those curious souls who are in pain and walk into the church but who do not look like them, because they are often searching for a place to belong.

Bringing Up Boys
With so much confusion about the role of men in society, it’s no wonder we have questions about how to bring up boys in the right way. Why are so many young males in crisis? What qualities should we be instilling in our sons? The culture has vilified masculinity, and as a result, an entire generation of boys is growing up without a clear idea of what it means to be a man. To help parents confront this challenge, the Dr. James Dobson Family Institute has developed a new 10-day email series based on Dr. Dobson’s best-selling book, Bringing Up Boys. It’s designed to equip you to wisely lead your sons to become godly men.

Christine Soule’s family was beyond dysfunctional. Her father was married eight times and her mother was married four times. If that wasn’t hard enough, Christine’s adopted father had an affair with her sister and they ran off and got married. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Christine shares that her traumatic childhood led her down a dark path filled with pain, confusion and sin. Miraculously, at the age of 21, she came to know Jesus Christ and He turned her life around. Today, Christine is empowering other traumatized young women to make wise decisions through her Seattle ministry, Providence Heights.

On today’s edition of Family Talk, Dr. Tony Evans, senior pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, proclaims that God is not colorblind. Nor is He blinded by color. The Lord does not want the racial distinctives that He created to be the ultimate source of our identity. The answer to today’s racial division? The church can model biblical reconciliation and unity through service, not seminars or soundbites. Each of us must recognize that everyone is created in God’s image.

When Jesus walked this earth, He was full of surprises. Remember when He surprised Cleopas and his friend who were grieving His death on the road to Emmaus? On today's edition of Family Talk, Dee Brestin, the author of The Jesus Who Surprises: Opening Our Eyes to His Presence in All of Life and Scripture, says that sometimes our troubles can blind us to the fact that Jesus is just three feet away.

When Dee Brestin was grieving the death of her husband of 39 years and feeling abandoned, she was reminded of the moment when she was attempting to nurse her colicky baby son. After kicking and crying for 10 minutes, he finally calmed down and latched on. On today's edition of Family Talk, Dee says that, like her colicky baby, there's no reason for us to throw a fit. God is with us.

By his own admission, Lee Strobel was once a narcissistic, drunken, self-absorbed atheist. When his wife, Leslie, became a believer, he wanted a divorce. After two years of trying to disprove Christianity, the Chicago Tribune journalist was overwhelmed by the avalanche of evidence, and ultimately gave his life to the Lord. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Strobel continues discussing his book and film, The Case for Heaven, which takes a hard look at evidence of the afterlife and answers poignant questions concerning what happens when we leave this life. After having almost died, himself, 10 years ago, Strobel interviewed one of his heroes, evangelist Luis Palau, who was dying of stage four cancer at the time. Palau offered invaluable advice, “No one will ever regret being courageous for Christ!”

On today’s Family Talk, Christian apologist and scholar Lee Strobel discusses his recent book and film, The Case for Heaven. In his conversation with Dr. Tim Clinton, Lee makes a strong argument for Heaven as a very real and viable place, and points to corroborated near-death experiences from several individuals, including a woman named Maria who almost died of a heart attack. She described how her spirit separated from her body, which is consistent with God’s Word. Through Maria’s and other first hand testimonials, Strobel offers a consistent narrative of hope and promise.

1 Timothy 4:12 says, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” On today’s edition of Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson interviews Charlie Kirk. They discuss the importance of reaching young people and encouraging them to step into the culture to make a difference with the gospel. When asked if there is a hunger for the Good News on college campuses today, Charlie said that beneath the noise and clamor of secular society, there are many who are looking for hope and a Savior.

According to Charlie Kirk, the battle we are engaging in America is a spiritual battle and not a political one. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Charlie continues his speech on the decline of the foundation of biblical truth and boldness within the Church. He urges listeners to stand firm and hold fast to the convictions of their Christian faith. Galatians 6:19 proclaims, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

Joshua 1:9 says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” On today’s edition of Family Talk, Charlie Kirk, the founder and president of Turning Point USA, states that there are many in the Church who are neither strong nor courageous in the face of society’s changing tide. He points to various issues in our nation and asserts that if the American Church does not rise up, our country will soon fall apart.

After only four months of marriage, Christian singer Jeremy Camp’s wife, Melissa, died of ovarian cancer in 2001. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Jeremy discusses the deep heartache that rocked his entire world and shook his Christian faith. Ultimately, the experience shaped his musical career. In the midst of his grief and pain, 2 Corinthians 4:17 came alive to him. “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.”
