A Story of Redemption: How One Woman Survived Sex Trafficking - II

March 2, 2023

After Jessa Dillow Crisp escaped sex trafficking at the age of 21, she earned her GED, began attending Bible college and even met her now husband, John. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Jessa shares that when she started dating John, who was a fellow Bible college student, he epitomized God’s grace and love when she revealed her shameful past to him. John shares with Dr. James Dobson that he told Jessa that she was not defined by her past, but was the Lord’s beautiful creation. 2 Corinthians 5:17 proclaims, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

Did you know that there are over 27 million victims of human trafficking worldwide? Or that the majority of victims who are sex trafficked are defenseless girls and women? For Jessa Dillow Crisp, she experienced horror at the hands of her biological family. Even worse, she was sex trafficked at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Canada where people profited from her pain. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Jessa shares her story with Dr. James Dobson and how God provided an escape for her at the age of 21 with a path toward restoration. Today, Jessa is a ray of light, helping others. With her testimony and professional skills in counseling and recovery, she has a mission to help others escape some of the darkest sins that humans commit against one another.

In many homes, dads are absent or not spiritually present for their children. Some are not equipping their sons and daughters with the Bible’s blueprint for life. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Pastor Brenen Beeler offers two critical pieces of advice. First, Psalm 27:10 says if your father has abandoned you, the Lord will take care of you. Second, spend time in the Bible daily to provide the pattern of living for your children. According to Pastor Brenen, “As long as you model your life after Jesus, you have the pattern of a father to follow.” Proverbs 22:6 says, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

Just as King David set up his son, Solomon, for success to build the temple according to God’s blueprints, Christian fathers are called to set up their children for success. When we model the spiritual life for the next generation, we’re providing the winsome, biblical pattern. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Pastor Brenen Beeler reminds Christian dads that their bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. Unlike the Old Testament temple where God only revealed Himself once a year, we are blessed that He inhabits us daily. That should empower us to disciple our children through regular Bible reading together, weekly church attendance, and devoted service in Jesus Christ’s name.

Did you know that 58% of kids under the age of 14 are consuming graphic pornography on a regular basis? Or that 80 to 90% of this filth depicts violence against women? Today’s porn can lead to sex trafficking and many other corrupt forms of brokenness. On this edition of Family Talk, Dr. Tim Clinton interviews Donna Rice Hughes, president and CEO of Enough is Enough. With a mission to protect children and empower moms and dads, she urges parents to become cyber savvy by using Internet filters, regular monitoring, and using time-limiting tools. As a culture, it’s time that we collectively yell, “Enough is enough!” We will no longer allow pornography to rob our kids of their innocence and pollute their minds.

1 Timothy 2:1-2 says, “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people — for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” On today’s edition of Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson continues his conversation with Ralph and Danielle Drollinger, founders of Capitol Ministries. The Drollingers share how their ministry serves political leaders around the world, and changes hearts through insightful Bible studies. Similar to the Apostle Paul’s missionary journey to capital cities, Ralph and Danielle have established faith fellowship groups in 42 of America’s state capitol buildings.

After attending a Youth for Christ Bible study, Ralph Drollinger, a high school basketball player, became a follower of Jesus Christ. For the next four years, NBA teams offered contracts to the seven-foot-two-inch tall athlete. Instead of taking the big money, Ralph joined Athletes in Action and played with the best amateur basketball teams across the globe, even sharing the gospel at halftime. That passion for evangelism has continued in Ralph’s life. On today’s edition of Family Talk, he and his wife, Danielle, share their hearts for those who are lost and have not yet encountered Jesus. Together, the Drollingers founded Capitol Ministries, a non-profit organization with a mission to minister to political leaders with God’s Word.

When COVID-19 hit in early 2020, hospitals restricted family members access to their loved ones’ rooms. Without the comfort of an advocate or the desperately needed human touch at their bedside, many patients become more sick or die. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Steve Reiter continues to share the heartbreaking story of his wife, Elizabeth, who died alone in her hospital room during the pandemic. Thanks to Steve’s organization, ten states are moving toward a reasonable accommodation for a loved one to be allowed in the room around the clock through “Never Die Alone” bills.

Steve Reiter was madly in love with his wife, Elizabeth. After getting married in 2001, they had two sons. Years later, she was diagnosed with lupus and pulmonary hypertension, which led to her hospitalization in 2020. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Steve shares that because it happened at the beginning of the COVID pandemic, he was not allowed in the room to see his wife. Tragically, Elizabeth died alone, prompting Steve to create The Never Alone Project. Because patients thrive when a loved one is present, he advocates that at least one person be allowed to stay with a loved one at all times.

In Matthew 5, Jesus calls us to be the “salt of the earth.” The right amount of salt is great seasoning when sprinkled, but it's terrible fertilizer when dumped. On today’s edition of Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson continues his conversation with Dr. Bill Peel and Dr. Walt Larimore, about their book, Workplace Grace, which focuses on equipping Christians to evangelize at work. Dr. Peel notes that when it comes to showing signs of your faith in the workplace, you can raise a faith flag in just 30 seconds by offering to pray for a troubled colleague, and Dr. Larimore stresses that workplace grace is “going to work intentionally, in the power of the Holy Spirit, and leaving the results to God.”

In Matthew 28, Jesus commands His followers to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” But did you know that that command extends to us as well? And that your place of work can be the mission field? On today’s edition of Family Talk, Dr. James Dobson sits down with Dr. Walt Larimore and Dr. Bill Peel to discuss their book, Workplace Grace, and how to take your faith to work and share the Good News.
