Order in the Church, Part 2

In First Corinthians eleven the subject of head coverings comes up. There were some women in the church at Corinth who chose not to wear head coverings and this caused quite a stir. In that culture it was a sign she was not following the leadership of her husband. Here we are centuries later and obviously that’s no longer a cultural norm. So do we toss this passage out thinking it no longer applies? Actually pastor John Randall says it has something very important to say to us.

But, there are some things that while they may be permissible, have the potential to stumble a brother or sister in the Lord or even mislead an unbeliever! The city of Corinth was engaged in idolatry big time. There were also several pagan temples in the city and each one was quite popular. You can see why the apostle Paul felt it was so important to get the message of Christ to these people, that their hopes shouldn’t be placed in things made by the hands of men, but rather in the hands of the One who made men. We’ll learn that Christian liberty doesn’t include the freedom to sin!
