John Randall

Order in the Church, Part 2

June 2, 2020

In First Corinthians eleven the subject of head coverings comes up.  There were some women in the church at Corinth who chose not to wear head coverings and this caused quite a stir.  In that culture it was a sign she was not following the leadership of her husband.  Here we are centuries later and obviously that’s no longer a cultural norm.  So do we toss this passage out thinking it no longer applies?  Actually pastor John Randall says it has something very important to say to us.

There’s no question that Satan loves to deceive.  He’s been at it since the Garden.  And we can expect that to only increase in the last days.  How do we combat these lies and avoid getting lead astray?  We’d like to recommend a book from Jack Hibbs called, “Living in the Daze of Deception.”  Foreward by Mike Pompeo.  This national bestseller is available right now to our a Daily Walk listeners for the cost of just ten dollars.

The Jewish customs in the apostle Paul’s day were quite a bit different than what we find in today’s culture. For example, they couldn’t uncover their heads in public because it was dishonoring to their husband.  While some skim over First Corinthians eleven thinking it’s not applicable due to cultural differences, we don’t want you to miss the lessons contained here that are timeless.  Pastor John Randall is about to point to the order and structure that God has designed for the church today.

As believers, we know that we have an incredible amount of freedom. But, there are some things that while they may be permissible, have the potential to stumble a brother or sister in the Lord or even mislead an unbeliever!  Today pastor John Randall will give us a few questions we can ask ourselves to help us deal with those gray areas in our daily walk.

The city of Corinth was engaged in idolatry big time. There were also several pagan temples in the city and each one was quite popular. You can see why the apostle Paul felt it was so important to get the message of Christ to these people, that their hopes shouldn’t be placed in things made by the hands of men, but rather in the hands of the One who made men. We’ll learn that Christian liberty doesn’t include the freedom to sin!

I think you’d agree, life doesn’t always make sense! At times we wonder why good people suffer, and why God would allow a virus to spread around the world leading to such devastation!  We find some questions in the book of Job that are being asked today.  And so we thought we’d take you to Job chapters one and two, not necessarily to answer all of your questions, but rather to help you see what God is wanting to produce in your life through the present difficulty.

You may recall we had Don Stewart with us a few weeks back.  We received such a tremendous response to those programs, that we’ve decided to invite Don back with us.  Over the next two programs pastor John and Don Stewart will carefully consider the news of the day, looking at it all from a biblical point of view.  I think it will all serve to help you move from fear to courage.

Today on a Daily Walk we’ll see that pride is a problem in the church today. We’re just as capable of falling into sin as the next guy!  And that’s why we need to lean on the Lord and draw on His grace. Pastor John Randall highlights the danger of overconfidence in this study based in First Corinthians chapter ten.

In a culture full of moral depravity and sinful activities, the apostle Paul encouraged the Corinthian believers concerning the issue of temptation. His writings remind us today that, yes everyone gets tempted, but God will always provide a way out for us.  We’re going to look at the dangers of overconfidence, as the apostle Paul looks back on Israel’s history.
