Flesh & Bones

When Jesus rose from the dead, even His own disciples doubted Him and raised questions. God is big enough to take on any questions and doubts you have, but you also must be ready to put your faith in the truth that He gives you. Jesus is alive and sits at the right hand of God interceding for us, and He will always provide for all that we need.

The Bible tells us specifically that Mary was a virgin and that the Holy Spirit enabled her to conceive not just any baby, but God Himself within her womb. We celebrate the fact that God came to earth, experiencing every human experience from birth, and returned to heaven leaving an empty tomb.

Being smart is very different than being wise, and as children of God we are instructed to grow in wisdom in order so that we may make wise choices. The more that we seek after wisdom the more we develop the Pop Eye, seeing things through Gods eyes. Wisdom involves knowing what the right thing is to do and acting on that, making good choices to avoid future downfall or mistakes.

The Bible tells us that everything in creation is held together by God and He is present in every place. There is nothing that we can do to get away from Him, so when we finally surrender to Him He begins to live inside of us through His Spirit. Once He is inside of you and you are saved, you can never lose Him and He will always be with you.

Because of Christ’s death on the cross, we have all been given the grace and forgiveness needed to be accepted by God as His children. There is no sin too great to be covered by His grace. Once we experience His grace in our own lives, we can share that with the hurting people around us.

Scripture tells us that nothing is impossible with God, but He always works for his own glory. When we are living in obedience to God, there is nothing that can stand in our way. He may allow difficulties to come, but it is only so that others may see His glory in and through it all.

There are instances in this world where children, women, and sometimes men are taking beatings on a regular basis. While the Bible instructs us to not retaliate when someone hurts us but rather to respond in service, we also must seek God in each situation. If He tells us to stay and suffer, we must obey and believe He has a plan for it, but if He tells us to go we must go.

Jesus went through excruciating suffering in order for us to be saved. When He says in Scripture that we are to take up our cross and follow Him, that means that we need to be ready at any moment to give our lives for His sake. Even if we don’t ultimately die a physical death on His behalf, we need to die to ourselves and follow His will in our everyday lives.

As Christians, we ought to be waiting on the Spirit to blow some wind in our sails, and allow Him to guide us to where He wants us to go. Then, when we’re there, we need to listen and watch for what He is doing so that we can respond in an appropriate manner. The Holy Spirit desires to use us to do extraordinary things, but we can’t do those things without Him and so we must wait, listen, watch and respond.

When we listen to God, He will lead us to meet the needs of people that cross our path. Since all our stuff is His anyway, we need to be good stewards of what is His and distribute it where He wants us to. When we give to other people, Scripture tells us to give in secret so that they do not find out and give glory to God.
April 2, 2014
As Christians, we have the Holy Spirit living in us and working through us to fulfill God’s will. When we are prompted to share the Gospel with whoever we are talking to, we need to step out in obedience and do it because we may not know the work that God is doing behind the scenes.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
