Hope for the Future
January 20, 2024
We must endure in hope. Paul commended the Thessalonian Christians and thanked God for them continually for their good works produced by faith, their labor in the gospel prompted by love, and their endurance inspiried by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. They were enduring in hope. This is what we must do today as God's people. We must endure in hope. We must believe that there is hope for the future not only for ourselves as individual Christians but hope for the church and through its influence hope for the nation as a whole.

The Old Testament Zion continues on in the New Testament Zion. The Old Testament Zion is reborn in the New Testament Church. The Messiah has come and He has set up His Church and He reigns spiritually over her. The Old Testament prophets looked ahead and saw the New Testament Zion, the renewed and fulfillment of the Old Testament Zion. They prophesied of glorious days ahead for the church.

Now, we are living in a time of great spiritual and moral decline in this land. God's judgment on the nation has already begun though we refuse to see it. Will we continue in this decline or will things change for the better? Will we become a more righteous nation in the future? Will we once again return to the God of our forefathers? All of that remains to be seen. We have sunk to a low that we have never reached before. Only a tremendous outpouring of the Spirit of God can bring us back. It is for this that we must constantly pray.

Our forefathers had a vision for the nation. However, today we have lost that vision. We have turned away from the hearts of our fathers and we have sought out another way. Our hearts are far from God as a people and we need to repent.

Though it may be okay for Christians to drink in moderation. Yet, there may be a good case for abstaining from drink for the cause of righteousness.When we are living in a sinful and wicked society where men and women bow down and worship idols of all sorts, we need to be careful how we live. Drunkeness is wrong. Abstaining from drink is commendable. The Bible teaches both.

Sinful living will bring God's wrath. This is a lesson we will learn and a lesson that is now being taught whether we realize it or not. A godly society brings the blessings of God. A sinful society brings God's wrath upon it.

Sowing to sinful living will reap destruction. Our sins are piled up to heaven and we will reap destruction if we do not repent as a people and as a nation. God's wrath is upon us even now and it will increase. Yet, we must pray for mercy and ask for revival to come before its too late.
