Acts 2:22-24

22 “Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. 23 This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. 24 But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.

Big Idea

This excerpt is from Peter’s sermon on the Day of Pentecost. This is the first sermon preached in the church age. Notice the content: Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. This is the gospel message, which Romans 1:16 states, “…is the power of God for salvation”.

Our job is to keep the main thing, the main thing! The main thing is the truth about Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. He is the One sent from God, the Messiah and Savior, who provides salvation for all who believe in Him.

Personal Take Away

Do you believe in Jesus Christ as the One sent from God to die for your sins and rise from the dead? Do you see this truth as the main thing? Is the risen Christ real to you and living in you? Like Peter are you keeping the main thing, the main thing by talking about Jesus? Take some time to meditate on this passage and consider these questions. It really is the main thing!
