Living the Christian Life God's Way

September 26, 2021

The Christian life is not made of days of eternal sunshine; there are trials to face, struggles to overcome, and battles to be won. But how do we gain the victory in all these things?

Get ready to fight the good fight against legalism in Galatians. When this letter was written, it defended the gospel of Christ from people who wanted to reduce it to rules. Not surprising, Galatians has provided the backbone for several great spiritual revivals around the world. Freedom, we learn, is a serious fight. Allow grace to revolutionize your own life through these seven lessons from Dr. J. Vernon McGee.

As Jesus' journey to the cross draws near, He takes the disciples aside to talk about the events that are about to unfold, answer their questions, and calm their fears. Join them in the upper room, as the words our Lord spoke to them are relevant to us, too.

The four Gospels don’t give a complete picture of the day Jesus died. For that we must turn our attention to the Psalms and see the cross from the perspective of the One who was hanging on it.

King Solomon was the wisest, richest, and most honored king of his day. His fame spread far and wide. It even reached the Queen of Sheba, who determined to make a journey to find out for herself if all that she heard was true.

For almost a millennium, the children of Israel possessed Palestine. But because of their disobedience, they were taken away into captivity. That was the beginning of a new period in which Jerusalem would be “trampled by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.”

About Dr. J. Vernon McGee

John Vernon McGee was born in Hillsboro, Texas, in 1904. Dr. McGee remarked, "When I was born and the doctor gave me the customary whack, my mother said that I let out a yell that could be heard on all four borders of Texas!" His Creator well knew that he would need a powerful voice to deliver a powerful message.

After completing his education (including a Th.M. and Th.D. from Dallas Theological Seminary), he and his wife came west, settling in Pasadena, California. Dr. McGee's greatest pastorate was at the historic Church of the Open Door in downtown Los Angeles, where he served from 1949 to 1970.

He began teaching Thru the Bible in 1967. After retiring from the pastorate, he set up radio headquarters in Pasadena, and the radio ministry expanded rapidly. Listeners never seem to tire of Dr. McGee's unique brand of rubber-meets-the-road teaching, or his passion for teaching the whole Word of God.

On the morning of December 1, 1988, Dr. McGee fell asleep in his chair and quietly passed into the presence of his Savior.
