Through The Hymnbook

Guest (Female): The chimes have been playing that beautiful song "All the way my savior leads me". And welcome to the organ loft for that special time of music called Through The Hymnbook.

This is going to be a most interesting and unusual Through The Hymnbook because it's called "A Whole Alphabet of Gospel Songs". This was suggested by one of Reverend Jones' listeners, and actually the songs go from A to Z, and you'll be interested to see the titles.

Reverend Bert Jones: Mrs. Marion Simpson of Butler, Pennsylvania has sent a whole alphabet of hymns and gospel songs. In other words, A-B-C-D-E-F-G, H-I-J-K-L-M-N-O-P, and on right through the alphabet she has a hymn for every letter in the alphabet.

I want to try to play at least a part of each of these songs. Now, Mrs. Simpson has suggested for the letter A, not "All the way my savior leads me", but the great hymn that says "A wonderful savior is Jesus my Lord, a wonderful savior to me".

The letter B: "Believe on the Lord Jesus and thou shalt be saved". And of course, immediately comes to mind this song that many of you know, "Blessed Assurance". We could have used that one.

All right, hurrying through. We're going to try to play a whole alphabet of hymns and gospel songs as sent to me by Marion Simpson of Butler, Pennsylvania. It's a great idea. And here's a great song for the letter C: "Christ the Lord is risen today. Hallelujah, hallelujah".

The letter D: "Does Jesus care, does Jesus care? Oh yes, he cares".

The letter E in the alphabet brings to mind the cheerful gospel chorus that says "Everybody ought to love Jesus, everybody ought to love Jesus". Do you remember that one?

And I also think of another little cheerful chorus that would be very appropriate for the letter E: "Every day with Jesus is sweeter than the day before".

The letter F brings to mind the great song "Fairest Lord Jesus".

For the letter G, Mrs. Simpson has suggested the song "Give me Jesus". Take the world, but give me Jesus. I also think of the song "Great is Thy Faithfulness" as most appropriate.

The letter H: "Have you any room for Jesus? Have you any room for him?"

We're going through a whole alphabet of hymns and gospel songs. I'm trying to see if I can play through the alphabet as suggested by Marion Simpson of Butler, Pennsylvania. It's a great idea.

Now, you can jot these down, and you could go through the hymnbook and find alternates to all of these songs, of course. But a whole alphabet of hymns and gospel songs. What a nice idea. Letter I: "I have a song that Jesus gave me. It was sent from heaven above".

The letter J brings to mind the great hymn of the church: "Jesus, the very thought of Thee with sweetness fills my breast".

The letter K, and it reminds us of "King of my life, I crown Thee now. Thine shall the glory be, lest I forget Gethsemane." "King of my life".

The letter L: "Let Jesus come into your heart". Just now throw open the door and let Jesus come into your heart.

We're up to the letter M in the alphabet. And the hymn that comes to mind is "More about Jesus I would know".

And the letter N. What should it bring to your mind? Well, here's what comes to mind in the list of Marion Simpson of Butler, Pennsylvania: "Now I belong to Jesus".

O: "Only a step to Jesus. Why not take it now?" What a great invitation, what a great exhortation. Another great song that comes to mind for the letter O is the beautiful "Only believe, only believe. All things are possible, only believe".

The letter P. With the letter P, we come to the beautiful favorite song "Precious Lord, take my hand and lead me home".

For the letter Q, Mrs. Simpson does not have a song. But I can't think of one either that starts with Q. But I do think of "Blessed Quietness". That's almost starting with Q, isn't it?

And here's a great one for the letter R: "Redeemed, how I love to proclaim it".

Fanny Crosby's great song "Safe in the arms of Jesus" illustrates the letter S in the alphabet.

It's Through The Hymnbook heard every week at this time. And this time, we're going through the alphabet trying to play a song for every letter of the alphabet. We're up to the letter T, and here's the song: "Take the name of Jesus with you".

M-N-O-P-Q-R-S-T... U: "Up from the grave He arose". Here it is.

And the letter V. What else could we have but "Victory in Jesus"?

And the letter W. Beautiful favorite selection for that is "What a friend we have in Jesus".

U-V-W-X... Hmm. We're sort of stumped on the letter X. Although I do think of the Gaither song that says "Get all excited and tell all about it". Well, maybe you'll think of something better for the letter X for us.

U-V-W-X-Y... Y: "Yield not to temptation" is very appropriate. Or Mrs. Simpson has suggested "Yes, Jesus loves me".

And we come to the letter Z. There is a song that begins with Z. It's the beautiful song "Zion's Hill". You know it, don't you?
