Our Priesthood in Christ
Pastor Jack Morris continues our Tabernacle series with a powerful message titled “Our Priesthood in Christ.” Drawing from Ephesians 1:4-10, we’ll explore how the role of the Old Testament priest foreshadows the calling we now have as believers—chosen, redeemed, and set apart for God’s purposes. Just as priests were appointed to serve in the sacred space of the Tabernacle, we too have been given access and responsibility to serve God daily, clothed in Christ’s righteousness and grace.

Pastor Jack Morris: Your love. He chose you to love you. To put his grace upon you. To answer your prayers. He chose you. He selected you. And then to take you to heaven when you die. That's your privilege and mine. High and holy in Jesus.
Guest (Male): Welcome to the healing word, a ministry dedicated to offering strength and encouragement through God's word for anyone facing life's challenges. As believers, we want to serve God and walk in his will. Though the path isn't always easy, today's message is here to meet you at your point of need, bringing hope and renewing your faith now. Here's Pastor Jack Morris.
Pastor Jack Morris: We're studying the tabernacle. We've been studying it for several weeks, about two, maybe three more weeks and this study will conclude. But remember this, the tabernacle, the tabernacle was so that God could dwell with man. That that's it. There is no other explanation. There is no other reason. That's basic. God thought of this. God did this because he wanted to dwell with us. That is awesome. Absolutely awesome that God would want to dwell with us. Now God had not dwelt with man since Adam. When Adam sinned, God stopped dwelling with man. But God never lost the desire to dwell with man.
But he's a holy God. And man had become a disobedient, contrary, sinful man. And God couldn't move into that. God says, how can I move into man, reestablish a relationship with man because man is in sin and God is in purity. To bring it together would be like oil and water. It will never mix. But God says we have to mix. We have to be one. How can I do that? So God thought, well I've got to deal with sin. I've got to remove sin. I've got to separate man and sin. I've got to wipe his past clean.
And God thought of a way and he thought of this this tabernacle. And here is God's great great attempt to get near you and me. To get close to us. We weren't trying to get close to God. And even now sometimes I wonder, I truly wonder, do we really want to get close to him? When are we really going to get serious about God? God certainly got serious about us. Now this was a a prophecy of the cross and Jesus to come. But God step by step progressively moves toward Calvary in a great effort to get close to us.
To fellowship with us. To bestow love upon us. For reasons only known to him, he wanted to do all of that. And now he sets forth this tabernacle to get us into his presence and so he can get into our presence because he couldn't get anymore into our presence than we could get into his. Because to get into our presence would stain his character. This God of almighty purity. And we were now children of the earth, children of darkness. Stained by sin, followers of Satan, children of hell. God is thinking, how can I get all of that separated and wiped clean so that I can get back with the people I love.
And this is this whole thing is his idea to get close to you. If you think you're far from God this morning, let me tell you you're not. You're so close to the kingdom of God. You have but only to believe and to look and to pray and to confess and to repent of your sins and Jesus will take them away and you will then be in the living presence of God to have your prayers answered, your life blessed, wonderful love, heavenly love, divine love, eternal love bestowed upon you. I mean, why is it we have such a hard time serving God, going to church and doing the right thing?
I mean, it's almost strenuous for some people, even some Christians, to do what they have been taught to do and to follow the Lord closely and truly to worship him in spirit and in truth. So that's what this whole lesson has been about. That's what the lesson is about today. So God prepared the tabernacle, everything in that tabernacle, every inch, every dimension, every cubic is his idea, his thoughts. He designed it. He didn't say Moses, you build something, use your own judgment, get a good architect. No, he he laid it out and it's in the scripture, everything that was to be done and then Moses and the people of Israel did it.
Now today we're going to talk about how this functions and how the architect your has been completed and now it must begin to function. God now must move in. Priest must move in. It's like building a house and then standing out in the yard and looking at it and saying, isn't it nice? No, it's time now to move the furniture in and begin to live there and to begin to function. So God now is going to do what he has proposed to do and that is to remove our sin and to do it through the functions of the tabernacle and he's going to establish priest priest, high priest and and and general priest to make this come about.
Now when I talk about priest this morning, I'm going to talk about Aaron, the brother of Moses. He was a high priest. Aaron's sons, the nephews of Moses were what I'll call general priest. Jesus is our high priest. But now God has made you like Aaron's sons to be priest. And when I go through this, you have to hold that in mind or you you're going to miss the the important point. You now are a priest unto God to come to God with the blood of Jesus into the very presence of God. Your privileges are high and holy and God, listen friend, God is so anxious and God is waiting for you to for you to function in your priesthood privileges.
He wants you to come into his presence with your needs, with your request and he will answer your prayers and meet your needs. In Exodus chapter 29 verse nine, the priesthood is theirs by a lasting ordinance. In this way you shall ordain Aaron and his sons. Now what is happening? God is getting ready for Jesus to come and it'll be several thousands of years before he comes. But he's getting ready for the high priest Jesus to come who in turn will make you and me priest and give us priesthood privileges. We don't have these privileges now.
Only Aaron and his son has these high and holy privileges. But God as God chose Aaron and chose his sons, God chose you. God chose Jesus. It's all God's idea. Someone says, well you know, when I chose to become a Christian or or when I decided to give my heart to the Lord, hey, why be so cocky and arrogant? You didn't decide. It wasn't according to your schedule or mine when I gave my heart to the Lord. When I received Jesus, it's like Jesus coming into my office, standing before me with hat and briefcase in hand and me sitting behind my desk looking up and making a decision whether or not I'm going to talk to him and receive him.
I received him only only when he received me convicting me of my sins, helping me to realize that I was lost and he wanted to find me. Helping me to realize that he wanted to forgive me of my sins. He chose me. He chose you. And if he hadn't chose you, you wouldn't be here this morning. Do you hear me? You wouldn't be here this morning if he hadn't chose you. God chose you to be his son, to be his daughter. God chose to wipe your slate clean. That's what the word atonement means. The word atonement means two things, to wipe clean and secondly to cover.
And in this instance, it has the thought of wiping clean. God chose to erase your past and to wipe it clean. You couldn't do that. You couldn't erase your past and wipe it clean. God chose to do this and he did it. He did it. Thanks be unto him. Can you say thanks be unto God? God chose to do this. God chose Aaron. God chose Jesus. God chose Aaron's sons and God chose you. Jesus said in in John chapter 15 verse 16, you did not choose me. He looked at the disciples right in the eye.
He said, you did not choose me but I chose you and ordained you, meaning I set you apart from the world. You couldn't have been a Christian. You couldn't have gotten into the kingdom of God. You couldn't have separated yourself from sin. I chose to do that for you. I chose to do that for you. I chose to love you. It was my choice to do that, says Jesus. I chose to forgive you. That was my choice. I chose to receive you into the kingdom of God, into the citizenship of heaven. Jesus is saying that's my choice.
What a wonderful savior. What a wonderful savior. Before the foundation of the world, Ephesians chapter one verse four, God had this plan in mind to do this.

Pastor Jack Morris: Now on point B, on line B, write down the word consecrated. c o n s e c o n a t e d, consecrated or the word ordained. They both mean the same thing. The priest were consecrated to God. Now you're a person who did not know Jesus. God chose to bring Jesus to you. He chose to convict you or to convince you. It was his choice to do that and to show you your need of a savior. If you you didn't come to that realization on your own, neither did I. We came to that realization because God chose to bring us to that realization and to put that knowledge in our hearts.
So now we have been convicted of our sins or convinced that we are sinner and convinced that Jesus loves us and wants to save us and to bring us into the family of God. We're convinced of that and we will we then say Lord, do your will. Forgive me of my sins. That's what you want to do. That's your will. Bring me into your kingdom. That's your choice. That's your will. Erase my past. Wipe my past clean. Cover me with your blood, of the very blood of Jesus that we shed on the cross. And then God does that.
Now we're brought in and we are brought in by blood. Now let's look and see and see how a priest is brought in because remember you now have priestly privileges, meaning you have the privilege to pray and talk to God and to have your prayers answered. Number one under point B, animal sacrifices. Now God's going to walk the priest through so that the priest can have these privileges of prayer in the presence of the Lord. And he's going to do it through a blood sacrifice. This is God's decision. This is God's will. God thought of this plan, whether we like it or not.
This is how God said he was going to do it. Some people says, well you know, I've been a good person and I've done a lot and I've given a lot and I've contributed a lot and hey, God says forget it, shut it up. It's my blood, the blood of Jesus, the blood of Jesus only. The blood of Jesus. There must be a blood sacrifice. Well now this is happening before Jesus in preparation for Jesus to come. So there are three animals that God uses, the bull and two rams. This is what God is going to do to bring these priest into high priestly and general priestly privileges.
The bull is the most costly. It's the biggest of all animals and it's more costly than a ram or a lamb or any of the other sacrifices. God is trying to say this salvation is not cheap. There is no such thing as cheap grace. It is costly. And so they purchased this bull and on all three animals, the bull and the two rams three times, these sons representative of you and me, they lay their hands on the bull, on the ram, the first ram and on the second ram, one at a time. And they confess their sins, as I said last week, transferring their sins to the bull, to the ram, to the ram.
And then the bull and the two rams transfer back their innocency to the priest or to the person that's doing the confessing. That's what happens when you come to Jesus and you confess your sins. You talk to Jesus, you confess your sins, you transfer them over on to him and he transfers back to you his innocency and his purity. Look at this holy scripture with me, the animal. So then the first is the bull. That's Calvary. The second is the ram. That Thanksgiving for Calvary. Now now we're going to live the life that Calvary made and created for us.
That's the second ram or the third animal. Again the priest will put his hands on the head of the third one and confess again. But this time blood is taken from that animal. Blood is taken and blood is now put on the tip of the ear of that priest. Blood is now put on the thumb of his right hand. Blood is now put on the right toe of his right foot. God is saying, I'm purchasing you with blood. Now you want to come into the holy place and God wants you to come into the holy place.
He has sent me, the pastor, to tell you how to get there. And I'm teaching you that today because God wants to answer your prayers. He knows you've been praying. He's been listening to those prayers and God says, I can't do it. I can't do it. I can't do it. They're unclean. Bitter water flows out one moment and sweet water coming out the next one. The well is stained. The heart is stained. And so God brings these priests in to consecrate them. The ear, the thumb, the toe, God has purchasing rights to us. What is this?
Your body now, body, soul and spirit is the temple of the Holy Spirit. You belong to the Lord. You have given your heart to Jesus. You are now not your own. You've been bought with a price. The price has been the currency of heaven which is the blood of Jesus. Now point C in your outline, write down the word function, the function of the priest. The priest would come now. Here here is is the high priest. I'm going to start just at the top and go through this very quickly. Right there across that band are the words holiness under the Lord.
Holiness. See that's where our thought life is, right up here, isn't it? That's where the mind is. That's really where the heart is. And the priest on the outside had holiness under the Lord. Now on the inside of your mind, your mind is made clean by the blood of Jesus. You're now a holy vessel under the Lord. Now on the outside it is garment and this isn't too clear but there's a pouch right here. Effort and you see there are there are 12 precious stones meaning the referring to the 12 tribes of Israel. Jesus now is our high priest.
We are now the family of God and he has us over his heart. That's where Jesus carries us on his heart, also on the shoulders. They're right there and right there. There are two class. And all of what I'm telling you now I've just read in the Bible. You know that's about all I know anymore is what I read in the Bible. There are two other precious stones right there and right there. There is the children of Israel's names and there their names and then their names are there, meaning he has you over his heart and he's burying you up on his shoulders.
That what Jesus is doing for us all the time. This this white that you see here, this is linen, meaning now you are clothed with purity. The lavender is the is made in one piece with one place with three holes for the head and the arms. It's just one solid piece meaning referring to divinity. Notice across the bottom here, there are little bells when the priest would go into the holy place unseen where no one could see him. The people on the outside could hear the bells ringing and they knew that he was still alive, that he was functioning as a priest.
He was in the presence of God. His prayers were being answered because if he were to die, they would then reach in by a rope and drag him out. Nobody would go into the presence of God unless they die. Friends, some of us, listen to me, some of us need to be more careful when we get on our knees and start praying. The first thing we need to do is to confess and to repent. But if we go in there to the Lord and say God, I want you to do this for me and I want you to do that for my family and I want you to help me with my finances.
Friend, you're not worthy to ask that. You're wasting your breath because he's not going to do that. It's you, your heart, your soul. He loves you and he wants you. And when he has you as his darling, he will do anything for you. Anything. That's according to his will and according to his word. When you pray in his name with a pure heart and a pure mind that has been cleansed and sanctified with the blood of Jesus, when you say in Jesus' name, you can say I'm I'm coming with blood. And when God looks at blood, he never turns Jesus down.
He'll never turn you down. Now let's look at Hebrews eight verses one and two and then I must close. The point of what we are saying is this. We do have such a high priest who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the majesty in heaven and who serves in the sanctuary, the true temple, the true tabernacle set up by the Lord, not by man. We do have a high priest. When Jesus arose from the dead and when he ascended back to heaven, he took his own blood. He was the lamb and he took his own blood.
And he comes to the father and he puts his blood on the mercy seat. And he says it's for them. He didn't need to die because he wasn't a sinner. He was pure. So his blood now becomes efficacious for us. He puts his blood on the mercy seat. When you and I come, we come saying father, look at the blood of Jesus. We come with his blood. We come with the blood that he shed at Calvary, the blood that he took from Calvary and he ascended and brought it back to heaven. We are here because of him.
God will answer your prayers. God will bring peace to your life. God will heal your brokenness. God will God will do great and wonderful things. He truly will. Your love. He chose you to love you. To put his grace upon you. To answer your prayers. He chose you. He selected you. And then to take you to heaven when you die. That's your privilege and mine. High and holy in Jesus. Do you know him as your savior? I'm so grateful. Now if if there's uncleanliness there, we're going to bow before the Lord and all you need to do is say Lord, I am unclean right now.
You don't need to say it to a pastor. You are a priest. I am unclean. Atone me. Wipe the dirtiness away. Wipe it away. Friend, if you'll do that, then you will become holy under the Lord. Holiness under the Lord will be inscribed upon your thinking. You'll be changed in a moment in the twinkling of an eye. It'll happen. Priesthood privileges will be restored to you. Is there such a thing as Christians without priesthood privileges? Friend, be God's child. Give your heart to him all the way today.
