Resurgence Turned Divergence in the Southern Baptist Convention, Part 3

January 25, 2020
Over the past two programs, Tom Ascol, pastor of a Southern Baptist Church in Cape Coral, Florida, has joined us to discuss two issues currently being debated within the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), the largest Protestant denomination in America. Those issues are: women teaching men and Critical Race Theory, a humanistic perspective on race and society. This week in part 3, we will discuss a third issue—professing Christians who identify as “same sex attracted”. Is it possible to be a Christian and accept desires for homosexuality as “who I am”, even if not acting on those desires (i.e. “celibate”)? This is the assertion of Nate Collins, the Southern Baptist Seminary-trained founder of the Revoice Conference, which seeks to “support and encourage gay, lesbian, bisexual, and other same-sex attracted Christians.”...

The War On Men By Owen Strachan
Men—and masculinity in general—are under attack. For society to succeed, we need strong men to lead us in all areas of life. The war on men is a war on civilization. Strong men are not “toxic.” If they go away, evil men take their place, and weak men offer no resistance

Can Critical Race Theory be used as an “analytical tool”? Length: 3:10
January 19, 2020
The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) is the largest Protestant denomination in the U.S. Having turned from theological liberalism in the 1980s in an era known as the “conservative resurgence”, the SBC is now in another bellwether battle over three issues, all centered around the question of whether Scripture is sufficient in all matters of life and faith…or not. Last week in part 1, we discussed the first issue of women teaching men, or more broadly, women exercising authority of men in the church and home (1 Tim. 2:11- 15 [Open in Logos Bible Software (if available)] ). There is a great divide taking place in the SBC over this, with Beth Moore, asserting that complementarian theology (i.e. God has established separate yet complementary roles for men and women) paves the way for men abusing women. In part 2 today, Tom Ascol, pastor and producer of the documentary film By What Standard?, joins us again to examine the second issue being debated—race and the worldview of Critical Race Theory. A resolution on Critical Race Theory was passed at the 2019 SBC annual meeting resolving that the Marx-based, oppressor v. oppressed worldview could be used as an “analytical tool”...
