How America’s New Woke Religion is Not “Good News"

June 4, 2022

GUEST: OWEN STRACHAN, author, Christianity and Wokeness

The Bible says, “See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ” (Colossians 2:8).

Notice the words—“philosophy, empty deception, tradition of men, elementary principles of the world”. And notice what these do—“takes you captive” or enslaves people from believing the truth of Christ and His Word.

This sums up what America’s new woke religion has done to the minds and hearts of both non-Christians and Christians. An empty, deceptive, man-based, elementary philosophy has quickly taken captive our leaders, corporations, schools, and even churches.

Whatever it’s framed as—“woke” or “diversity, equity, and inclusion” or “social justice” or “Black Lives Matter” or “Critical Theory”—it all fundamentally rejects God’s assessment and solutions for mankind.

Because this woke religion is so prevalent in the culture and the church, it’s important for Christians to be informed about it so you and your family and your church are not taken “captive” through this “empty deception”.

Owen Strachan (pronounced “stran”), Research Professor of Theology at Grace Bible Theological Seminary and author of Christianity and Wokeness: How the Social Justice Movement is Hijacking the Gospel – and the Way to Stop It, joins us this weekend on The Christian Worldview to explain why America’s new woke religion is not “good news” as the real gospel is.

Owen presented a message at the recent Truth Matters Conference at the Ark Encounter in Kentucky that you can listen to here.

GUEST: TOM ASCOL, Senior Pastor, Grace Baptist Church (Cape Coral, FL)The Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) is the largest Protestant denomination in the United States with over 47,000 churches and 14 million members. The SBC also operates five seminaries, the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC), Lifeway Christian Resources, the North American Mission Board (NAMB), and more.So when a 400-page report released recently detailing sexual abuse and cover up by SBC leadership and an allegation of sexual assault by a former SBC president, shock waves reverberated inside and outside the denomination. This is yet another sordid situation at the SBC. You may remember the sermon plagiarism scandal that the current president Ed Litton was involved in. Or the passage of Resolution 9 to use Critical Race Theory as an “analytical tool”. Or the ongoing battle within the denomination with regard to women preaching to men, professing Christians who identify as “same-sex attracted”, and “social justice” as a “gospel issue”.Some might conclude the SBC is like a soap opera but it’s worse than that—flagrant sin, errant doctrine, and false teachers have infiltrated the denomination and churches and people are being harmed…and God is not glorified.Just a couple weeks from now, the SBC will gather for its annual meeting in Anaheim, CA, where the “messengers” will elect a new president to replace Ed Litton. Tom Ascol, senior pastor of Grace Baptist Church and president of Founders Ministries, is one of three candidates for president and he joins us this weekend on The Christian Worldview.

GUEST: Dinesh D’Souza, Filmmaker, 2000 MulesAfter watching Dinesh D’Souza’s new documentary film 2000 Mules that shows clear and widespread evidence of voting fraud in the 2020 presidential election, the only rational, beyond-a-reasonable-doubt conclusion is: Joe Biden won the election through criminal and fraudulent means. In other words, Donald Trump should be the current president. How did this fraud take place? Consider this quote from an official website of the government:The COVID-19 pandemic led to a variety of changes in voting methods across the country in 2020, and the ways people could cast ballots varied widely from state to state. In the 2020 election, 69% of voters nationwide cast their ballot nontraditionally — by mail and/or before Election Day. This is the highest rate of nontraditional voting for a presidential election…Many states maintained traditional voting procedures, but some expanded early voting, and others automatically sent all registered voters a ballot that could be returned by mail.Millions of unrequested ballots were sent to those on voting rolls, filled out, and then placed in drop boxes throughout cities and towns before election day. What could go wrong? A lot. Please join us this weekend on The Christian Worldview as Dinesh D’Souza, filmmaker of the must-see new documentary 2000 Mules, joins us to provide evidence—including video and cell phone geo tracking data—of how the crime of the century took place.RELATED RESOURCES: 2000 Mules is showing in theaters nationwide this weekend. GUEST: Dr. GEORGE BARNA, Cultural Research Center, AZ Christian UniversityA true follower of Christ has the indwelling Holy Spirit to discern that the professed Bible-believing church in America has drifted. The lights go down and the “worship arts team” spends 30 minutes or more performing the audience into an emotional, quasi-spiritual experience. Then the pastor takes the “stage” and roams, gesticulates, and emotes his (or her) way through a 25-minute “sermon” of life-coaching with personal stories, humor, props and a few quasi-Christian principles mixed in.So it makes perfect sense why well-known researcher Dr. George Barna finds that…Only two percent of professed Christian parents have a Biblical worldviewJust one-half of self-described Christian parents accept the Bible as the true and trustworthy words of GodOne out of every four do not bother to praise, worship, or thank God during a typical week. This is a death spiral for the church, families, and even our country. And yet, Christ continues to build His church—not necessarily the visible brick-and-mortar church but the invisible remnant of true believers.Dr. George Barna, director of research and cofounder of the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University, joins us this weekend on The Christian Worldview to discuss his most recent studies along with an exhortation for each of us to examine ourselves, repent, and revive.-------------------------Related Resources:Arizona Christian University Research Center: https://bit.ly/3FOzFOT

Fulfilled prophecy is one of the clearest evidences that Scripture is true and inspired by God. In other words, predictions that were made hundreds of years in advance—such as how Christ would be born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14) or His substitutionary sacrifice for sinners (Isaiah 53)—should lead to the conclusion that Biblical prophecies about the future will be fulfilled as well. The greatest future prophecy and the believer’s greatest hope (one pastor defined this hope as “something that is certain, but not yet realized”) is the return of Jesus Christ to earth to defeat His enemies and reign for 1000 years.Last week in part 1 of our interview with Steve Miller, author of Foreshadows—12 Megaclues that Jesus’ Return is Nearer than Ever, we discussed the first several clues such as the rise of globalism and the spread of all-invasive technology and surveillance that will enable the global leader known as the Anti-Christ to control the world before Christ returns. This week in part 2, we are going to discuss more foreshadows, such as the proliferation of deception, the assault on truth, hostility toward Israel and the Jewish people, and more.“Watch, be alert, be ready” is what Christ commanded His followers. Join us this weekend as we look forward with expectancy to the return of the Son of God.------------------Related Resources:Foreshadows by Steve Miller: https://bit.ly/3MTLPsc

GUEST: STEVE MILLER, author, ForeshadowsShortly before His crucifixion, Jesus told His disciples that the magnificent temple in Jerusalem—the central place of worship for the Jews—would be destroyed. Shocked, the disciples asked Jesus, “Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age” (Matthew 24:3-4)?The disciples back then were asking some of the same questions that believers are asking today. Jesus went into a full discourse about the end times, providing some of the most detailed prophecy in all of Scripture. While He didn’t specify the day of His return, He did say what to watch for:“See to it that no one misleads you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will mislead many…For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes…Then they will deliver you to tribulation, and will kill you, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name…This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come…For this reason you also must be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will.” Matthew 24 excerptsThis weekend and next on The Christian Worldview, Steve Miller joins us to discuss his new book and our new featured resource, Foreshadows—12 Megaclues Jesus’ Return is Nearer than Ever. Steve examines current events, such as globalism, technology and surveillance, moral corruption, and of course the rebirth of the nation of Israel, providing non-sensational insight into the world’s inexorable move to the tribulation and then the return of Christ.--------------------Related Resource:Foreshadows—12 Megaclues Jesus’ Return is Nearer than Everhttps://bit.ly/3OGiLWK

Take any of the headline events of our day—Covid-19, accusations of systemic racism, the January 6, 2021 Capitol breach, and the homosexual/transgender movement—and you will see a recurring pattern.Disinformation (i.e. lies) is propagated by those with power and influence. Those who dare speak the dissenting truth are silenced. And those with power and influence gain more of both. This is an age-old scheme. Consider what took place after the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Matthew writes in his gospel, “when they [religious rulers] had assembled with the elders and consulted together, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers, and said, ‘You are to say, “His disciples came by night and stole Him away while we were asleep”’” (Matthew 28:12-13).Now who would believe such an obviously specious claim? Well, it turns out lots of people. Which is the most tragic part—souls are led away from the truth, not just on issues of our day, but on belief in the One and only Savior, Jesus Christ. This weekend on The Christian Worldview, we’ll examine how this age-old scheme is used today and what Christians should do in response. ————————- Related Resource:Damning New Details Emerge Exposing Massive Web Of Un-indicted Operators At The Heart Of January 6 (Revolver.news) - https://bit.ly/3LcZyK7

GUEST: RAY COMFORT, Evangelist, The Evidence Study BibleDeconstruction. It’s a current term for the age-old affliction the Bible calls apostasy—departing from professed orthodoxy to heterodoxy, often in the form of theological liberalism or atheism.Joshua Harris, once a popular pastor and author, went through a highly publicized “de-conversion”. There have been many others, often in their twenties and thirties, leading to the coining of another term—Exvangelical. This Easter weekend, evangelist Ray Comfort joins us to explain what is behind this deconstruction and how to present the gospel to avoid false conversions.----------------------Ray Comfort - https://bit.ly/37lWBbyEvidence Study Bible (hardcover): https://bit.ly/3KR8WDdEvidence Study Bible (leather): https://bit.ly/37Vbodl

GUEST: ROBERT KNIGHT, columnist, Washington TimesThe US Senate has voted to confirm Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court, despite the fact that she refused to define what a woman is, “doesn’t hold a position on whether individuals possess natural rights”,  and consistently sentenced those convicted of child pornography to less-then-recommended prison terms.Disney, the iconic corporation that operates theme parks and produces popular films, openly declares its intent to promote and affirm homosexuality and transgenderism toward young children. These current news events are extremely troubling indicators that our country has been “given over” to a “depraved mind” (Romans 1:28), one that is in open rebellion against God and His Word.Robert Knight, columnist for The Washington Times, joins us to discuss the evil intent behind Disney’s grooming of children and what Christians should think and do in response.-------------------------Related Resources:Robert Knight, The Washington Times: https://bit.ly/3DU7qxg

GUEST: GREG, pastor, Kyiv, Ukraine It’s been over a month and Ukraine continues to fight back against the military invasion by Vladimir Putin’s Russian forces. The human toll is high—thousands of people have been killed (on both sides), with homes and other non-military buildings destroyed. Cities like Mariupol have been decimated by Russian military bombardment, causing millions of refugees. Meanwhile, the debate rages in Europe and America about what to do. Is more intervention called for—beyond supplying arms and technological support to the Ukrainians—such as enforcing a no-fly zone over the country (which means direct combat with Russian forces)? Or just stay out of it, reasoning that the U.S. has little strategic interest in Ukraine? Even in an age of countless information sources, it’s difficult to know why Putin invaded Ukraine and what is taking place. That is why we are looking forward to talking with an American pastor who has ministered in Ukraine for 30 years and has chosen to stay with his congregation in the capital city of Kyiv, in the midst of war. Pastor Greg (last name and church withheld) will give us a first-hand, on-the-ground perspective. We hope you join us. ---------------RELATED RESOURCE: You can support the ministry and humanitarian aid that Pastor Greg and his church are spearheading by donating at LifegateWorldwide.org and specifying “Ukraine Aid” in the “Donation Recipient” field.https://bit.ly/3qXwwGm

GUEST MAT STAVER, Founder and Chairman, Liberty CounselU.S. Senate hearings began this week to interview President Biden’s nominee, Ketanji Brown Jackson, to the U.S. Supreme Court.Because the Supreme Court is a lifetime appointment and because the court decides on the most critical, future-defining cases for the nation (like abortion and “same-sex marriage”), Senate confirmation hearings can get nasty as the opposition party digs into every detail of the nominee’s judicial and personal life.During this week’s hearings, a clear indicator of how far morally our leaders have fallen was evidenced by the response to a question by Senator Marsha Blackburn, “Can you provide a definition of the word ‘woman’.” To which Ketanji Brown Jackson replied, “I can’t…I’m not a biologist.”Mat Staver, legal scholar and chairman of Liberty Council, joins us to discuss the nomination hearing and how Christians need to clearly and biblically proclaim the truth to a society in free fall.
