Clarifying the Impeachment of President Trump

December 13, 2019

We hate to interrupt your Christmas season with discussion of politics, but the President of the United States is about to be impeached.Only two presidents in our history have been impeached (Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton).  Richard Nixon resigned before impeachment. While it’s unlikely the Republican-majority Senate will follow the Democrat-majority House in impeaching President Trump—and thus removing him from office—it’s worth trying to understand what is taking place. Why is President Trump being impeached?  What do Russian election meddling, FBI surveillance of President Trump, FISA court rulings, Ukraine phone calls, Joe Biden and his son Hunter, the “Deep State”, and partisan politics have to do with all this?  Is it possible to untangle and understand this and conclude what it all means?Robert Knight, columnist for the Washington Times, joins us this weekend to clarify the impeachment of President Trump.

This is a rebroadcast of our December 22, 2018 program: The most significant event in history was the coming of the Son of God, Jesus Christ, into our world. From being born of a virgin woman, to living a sinless life, to performing miraculous acts, to offering His life on a cross to pay the penalty for mankind’s sin, to rising from the dead, to ascending into heaven—all in front of a watching world—is beyond extraordinary.  The only reasonable conclusion is that Jesus is who He claimed to be—God. Christmas should be the remembering and celebrating of Christ’s birth.  Yes, Christmas has pagan and Roman Catholic roots, and yes, the early church didn’t commemorate it, but setting aside a day to honor Christ’s coming into the world is a good thing...

In the first two chapters of his letter to Christians in Rome, the apostle Paul establishes that all people are sinners and separated from God, spanning the spectrum from non-believing Gentiles to religious Jews. Paul describes what leads the former group (non-believing Gentiles) into downward spiraling degrees of sexual immorality and other sins is suppressing the truth and not acknowledging God (v. 21, 28). That makes sense—reject the authority of God and man is the authority—and goes a long way to explain why American society today is “depraved, full of strife, arrogant, inventors of evil…and gives hearty approval to those who practice” sin” (Romans 1:28-32 [Open in Logos Bible Software (if available)] excerpts). But there’s another reason given in Romans 1...

Since 2012 when then-president of Chick-fil-A Dan Cathy dared speak up for biblical marriage, homosexual groups and a complicit media have made sure Chick-fil-A is relentlessly tagged as an “anti-LGBTQ” company. The smears didn’t seem to effect customers, as Chick-fil-A is the third most profitable fast food chain in America after McDonald’s and Starbucks. But in a surprise this week for the company that is known for being closed on the Lord’s Day, Chick-fil-A’s president announced it would no longer be donating to organizations like Fellowship of Christian Athletes, which require biblical morality amongst their leadership. This weekend on The Christian Worldview, Tim Wildmon, president of American Family Association and American Family Radio, another organization deemed “anti-LGBTQ” and a “hate group” by the leftist Southern Poverty Law Center, will join us to explain what it’s like to be in the LGBTQ’s totalitarian crosshairs and how to stand strong with biblical convictions.

It’s been said that “the most important thing about a person is their view of God.” If you think about it, one’s view of God—from a high and holy reverent view of God based on Scripture to the atheist who rejects that God exists to every view of God in between—is the fundamental driver for how one thinks and lives. For example, why wouldn’t an unmarried couple live together before marriage or why wouldn’t a mother encourage her son to be a girl if they don’t believe in the God of the Bible?  After all, it seems reasonable that an unmarried couple should “try things out” before getting married.  It seems reasonable that a boy who likes girl things “should transition to who he really is.”...

“I was just under the weight of my sin and I was being convicted that I was running from God, and I knew I needed to make things right, so I came to Christ. I came out of darkness into the light.” Most people wouldn’t think this quote would be attributed to rapper Kanye West, one of the best-selling musicians of all time, especially considering West’s sinful words and deeds in the past and his high-profile marriage to reality star Kim Kardashian. But his professed conversion to faith in Christ and his traveling “Sunday Services” have been making as much news recently at his just-released album, Jesus is King, which debuted at No. 1 on the charts. Many are responding to his claims of faith with skepticism...
