Walking in Confidence, Part 1

February 28, 2019

In this world there’s no shortage of grounds for doubts and fears, and Christians are not exempt. It is important as believers that we be people who know what we know, believe what we believe, and are confident in the things that we ought to be confident in.

In its early days, the Christian church was very conscious of the struggle for the souls of men and women between “the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood.” In our modern culture, we see dramatically changing attitudes toward truth. But we must recognize that there is such a thing as truth, and there is such a thing as error.

Love is a common theme of both Christian and secular thought and interest. Because of this, Christians need to be careful to understand the uniqueness of the love that characterizes the children of God—what it is, what it does, and what it says about who we are in Christ.

Dependent isn’t an adjective most people would want to use to describe themselves. Rather, we would like to be independent, in control. Paul writes about being dependent on Christ as a wonderful and necessary thing for Christian living. It is a privilege!  In this message, Pete Briscoe teaches us how dependence on God is a beautiful part of the dance, as we let the Spirit guide us through daily living.

When you think of Jesus’ disciples, what do you picture? Do you picture superheroes or great, powerful men? The truth is that the disciples were just ordinary, everyday men! This group, hand-picked by Jesus, included no scholars, religious leaders, or especially talented men. We have examples of when they lacked faith, humility, spiritual understanding, and power. Yet despite their ordinariness, these men became testimonies of God’s glory when He worked in and through them.  In this message, Pete Briscoe introduces us to this ragtag group of men and shows us how God’s power changed them from ordinary to extraordinary.

Has Jesus ever prompted you to do something far beyond your abilities, and you find yourself thinking, “I just can’t do this?” It leaves us feeling inadequate. However, we should never apply the worldly principle of inadequacy to Kingdom promptings! Throughout the Gospels, Jesus often asked the disciples to do things they were completely incapable of doing without Him. He wants to do the same in us. Christ is capable of doing in us what we could never do on our own.
