The Moment Jesus Returns, Part 1

February 12, 2019

How you feel about Jesus’ return probably has a lot to do with your understanding of the Bible.

There certainly will be a lot of action that day – the dead in Christ rising, non-believers swept away, believers lifted up to meet Jesus in the clouds. It will be an amazing day!

But if you’re not sure about how Jesus will react to you, you might be living in fear of His return. Maybe that fear stems from a struggle with sin, or you’re afraid you’ll be sinning at that exact moment He returns.

In this message, Pete Briscoe teaches from 1 John 2 & 3 to help release you from your fear and anxiety. You’ll learn why and how you can live confidently today while you wait for Jesus’ imminent return.

Many of us live a Christian life that’s like a saggy bed. We’re rock firm on one end and rock firm on the other. We know we’ve accepted Christ, and we know we’re going to heaven when we die. But we sag in the middle. So how do we fix the sag? In this message, Jill helps us learn to obey and apply what the Bible teaches so that we can grow in our faith.

When you think of witnessing, what comes to mind? Many think witnessing is scary and intimidating. Others think it’s something that just pastors and ministry leaders should do. But God believes witnessing is everyone’s job, and He has given each and every one of us the tools to do it. In this message, Jill explains how we can learn to witness.

Have you ever heard biblical teaching that sounded a bit off? Sometimes it’s glaringly obvious, but other times, you might not even be aware that you’re being deceived. False teaching can be extremely dangerous. It can lead you into temptation and outside of the Life Jesus came to give. So, how can you discern false teaching and avoid anything beyond the realm of God’s Truth? Pete Briscoe takes you to the answer found in 1 John and shares how to recognize the telltale sign of false teaching and avoid its danger and deceit.

Why is the world such a dangerous place for Christians? Because worldly pleasures are developed by the evil one for the purpose of drawing you away from Jesus. Just like a true friend would warn you of impending danger, John cautions us in 1 John about the danger of being seduced by worldly things that are not from God but are from Satan—things that pull us away from Jesus and into harmful circumstances. In this message, Pete Briscoe shows us what’s at stake when we maintain a flirtatious relationship with worldly things.

Is there ever a check in your spirit about whether you’re really a Christian? Studied out of context, 1 John 2:3, which mentions obeying commands, can read more like a warning to believers and cause us to doubt if we’re really children of God. But in reality, John brings to light in his letter the most beautiful and magnificent truth about the new command that Jesus wants us to focus on. In this message, Pete Briscoe uses John’s letter to lift the burden of doubt we might carry about our salvation. And at the same time, teaches us about Jesus’ design for love that is counterintuitive to how we love on our own.

People become remarkably imaginative about God.  But Scripture says, “Eye has not seen, ear has not heard, neither has entered into the heart of man what God has prepared for those who love Him, but God has revealed them to us by His Spirit.” Not speculation, not imagination – but revelation. God is in the business of self-revelation, which is a fundamental tenant of Christianity. He has made human beings uniquely capable of receiving what He is revealing. And more than that, He has given us the ability of responding to what we are receiving.   He reveals himself, first of all, in creation. Secondly, He reveals himself in covenant, and thirdly, He reveals himself in Christ. This is how we go about discovering what God is really like.

After your bad moments—moments when you flat-out blow it—what do you do? Do you isolate yourself? Do you self-condemn? Do you struggle to seek forgiveness and to forgive yourself? In this message from Luke 22, Pete Briscoe talks about the road back to intimacy with Jesus after we feel like we’ve disqualified ourselves.

Does anyone ever ask, “How are you?” and you reply, “Well, under the circumstances....” The problem is that’s exactly where we are living—under the circumstances! How do we rise above the adversity and sing a song of praise? From the Old Testament book of 1 Samuel, Jill Briscoe shows us how Hannah, under very difficult circumstances, found the secret.
