Meet Him at the Manger

December 22, 2017

“That though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.” 2 Corinthians 8:9

There are over 350 prophesies in the Old Testament that describe the Messiah. Jesus, born with no fanfare or even a crib, fulfilled every single one! The mathematical odds of that are virtually impossible.

And yet, even with that knowledge, the question about Jesus is ultimately a personal one you have to decide on your own. Who do you think the baby Jesus was?

In this message from Jill, she asks you this very question. If you believe the baby Jesus is God, you will live your life with a different perspective and purpose.

“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10 Jesus did not say, “Come to me and I’ll fill your life full of stuff.” He said, “I’ll fill it full of Me. I’ll fill it full of God, and then you will have life to the full.” And that’s what Christmas is all about. We often forget that as we get busy shopping, baking, decorating, wrapping, and attending parties. In this message, Jill challenges us to keep the focus on Christ and the significance of His birth this Christmas.

How can we get ready for Christ to come this Christmas and not allow Christmas to come without Christ? It’s not easy to keep Christ in the spotlight when we are so busy preparing for the happenings of the season. But we can, and must, focus on what He did for us as we celebrate His birth this Christmas.

Who was Jesus? Jesus was no ordinary child. The book of Hebrews says He was Divinity. He was God Himself, Immanuel—God with us. In this Christmas message, Jill Briscoe discusses the miraculous birth of Jesus, who Jesus was, and what that means for us. Jill reads her poem “Divinity Wrapped in a Blanket.”

When we are bogged down with feelings of inadequacy, or when we are burdened by expectations, it’s a great time to pray. But sometimes it can be hard for us to know what to pray or even how to pray. In this message, Jill walks us through the Old Testament prayer process that was followed within the temple and compares it to New Testament times to help us understand the importance of prayer and learn how to deepen our prayer life.

Think for a moment about the how you spend the majority of your day—working, attending school, raising children, running errands... Now, how do you spend the time that remains? Have you set aside time for the Lord each day? In this message, Jill encourages us to be intentional in connecting with God in all that we do and to make each moment count for Him.

We have to make a lot of choices every day... financial decisions, relational decisions, parenting decisions. From making a very small decision to dealing with what seems like an impossible situation, we often find ourselves looking for wisdom and striving to follow God's will. We're seeking to make wise choices. In this message, Jill looks at the life of Solomon to help us understand how we can develop wisdom.

Have you ever been with someone who seemed to have an inner joy even in the midst of a crisis? As Christians, we have the Holy Spirit living in our hearts, which brings incredible joy, and yet it’s true that we can lapse into feeling depressed and hopeless. How do we keep our joy? In this message Jill explores how can experience joy on the inside even when things are all wrong on the outside.

How do you stay when you really want to go? It’s not easy. Abigail was a woman stuck in a difficult marriage with a difficult husband. But instead of being angry and vindictive, she showed godly wisdom and self-control in diffusing tensions, and remained committed to her marriage.  In this message, Jill Briscoe walks us through Abigail’s story and gives us an example of how to deal with the difficult people in our own lives.

When we think of influential leaders, we often think of those who make bold statements, those who are aggressive or loud. But not all change happens that way. Ruth changed her world using humble acts of love and kindness. Despite her circumstances, Ruth spent her life in service. She lived a life that exemplified love to those around her, particularly in caring for her mother-in-law, Naomi.  Jill Briscoe teaches us how much we can learn from Ruth about being a true friend.

Every day we fight battles: teaching our kids to clean up their toys, dealing with difficult co-workers or family members, getting society to clean up the environment. But even though these battles are big, there is an even bigger war going on—a spiritual one. While we know that God is the ultimate victor, we live every day surrounded by Satan’s armies.  The judge and prophetess Deborah was surrounded by not only a spiritual war but a physical one! God gave her the gifts and talents she needed to complete the task He gave her. In this message from Judges, Jill shares with us Deborah’s story and shows us how we, too, can respond to God and find our roles in this great battle.
