What About Evil and Wickedness Part 1b

November 16, 2020

Jesus told us that in the last days there would be an increase in wickedness and evil in the world.  It’s probably safe to conclude we’re seeing that right before our very eyes.  So what are we to do, where do you go, and what do you say?  Pastor Jeff will thoughtfully consider that on today’s Sound Doctrine through a study in Ecclesiastes chapter eight.   We’ll learn how to be a light in a very dark world.

Pastor Jeff is in the middle of a study in Ecclesiastes.  From rioting in the streets, to the burning down of businesses, abortion, murder, rape… there’s a lot of bad in this world.  And maybe in light of it all, you’ve been wondering, why does evil and wickedness like this exist?  Why doesn’t God put a stop to it?  For some answers we’ll turn to Ecclesiastes chapter eight, where Solomon was trying to figure out the insanity all around him!

We live in a world where evil exists, and we’re no stranger to suffering.  But have you been wondering lately, why does God allow evil and suffering?  We’re about to look into that very difficult question on today’s Sound Doctrine.  We’ll learn that the Lord has a purpose behind all that we experience in life.  That doesn’t mean He caused it, but He can bring good from it.  And comfort us in the midst of it too.

We're currently enjoying a series of messages in Ecclesiastes. It’s helpful to understand where the writer of this book was coming from. Solomon was a rich and important man, yet he wondered out loud what the point of life really was. He was confused, lonely, empty... much like many people today wouldn’t you say? We’re going to look at Ecclesiastes chapter seven where we gain wisdom on how to make life better instead of turning bitter.

How’s your week been? Maybe for you you’re finding it hard to even get up in the morning to face another day, as life is far from happy and satisfying right now.  Today’s Sound Doctrine we believe will be a source of encouragement for you, so please stick around as we turn to Ecclesiastes six.   If choose to pursue the things of this earth… you’ll only have misery to look forward to. However when our chief aim is to please the Lord and make Him the passion of our life, we’ll have a satisfied soul.

No matter your walk of life, whether you’re a plumber, a housewife, or a business executive, you at some point will ponder the question, what’s the point of life? We all seek meaning, a sense of fulfillment! But as we’ll discover today on Sound Doctrine that can’t be captured by accumulating money or material things. So where do we go to find it? Let’s turn to Ecclesiastes Chapter 5 and see!

There are many people today who think the point of life is to make a lot of money. While it is important to have enough money for food, clothing and other essential items, is it necessary to have a huge bank account in order to be happy? The truth is quite the contrary. We find proof from the life of King Solomon in Ecclesiastes five.

Some of you are old enough to remember making a deal with a handshake.  Those days are long gone, as it’s rare for people to actually keep their word!  But the Christian should stand out in this world as being faithful to keeping our promises… or we shouldn’t make them in the first place.  That’s one of the lessons we’ll glean from Ecclesiastes chapter five on Sound Doctrine.
