The Spirit Life Part 1a

September 27, 2022

We’re camping out in Romans chapter eight today and all week long.  Each and every day we have a choice to make as followers of Christ.  And that is will we walk in the flesh or in the Spirit.  One leads to corruption and defeat, and the other to victory and blessings.  Seems like a no brainer, and yet we so often choose the wrong path.

When we become a Christian we’re no longer condemned.  But that doesn’t mean we won’t feel condemned at times.  Sometimes others will condemn us, sometimes we bring it on ourselves, and you can be sure Satan is behind it all.  So how do we get beyond that to embrace God’s truth for our lives?  Jeff Johnson points to the answer from Romans.

Pastor Jeff Johnson is our teacher, and currently leading a study in Daniel.  We’ve seen it throughout human history, God takes care of His people.  And that message rings loud and clear here in chapter three.  You’re about to see one day God will gather His church to be with Him, and He'll also preserve the children of Israel through the Tribulation period.  Proof He does indeed take care of us.

It’s one thing to fight against an enemy that you can see, but what about an unseen enemy?  That’s a different story.  Today on Sound Doctrine pastor Jeff Johnson speaks of a war within.  The struggle we all have with sin is real.  But there is a way to win, and Romans chapter seven lays that out for us.

We sometimes think that our pastors or the apostles we read about in the Bible are super spiritual, and couldn’t possibly face the same struggles with the flesh as we do.  But the reality is, we all wrestle with the flesh, and the struggle is real!  There is a way to overcome, however.  And we’ll look into that today, as we turn back to Romans chapter seven.

We may start to wonder at times, “Am I the only one that struggles with the flesh?”  You might be surprised to find out, even the apostle Paul did.  We all battle the flesh, and that battle will continue until we get to heaven.  That comes to our attention today on Sound Doctrine, through a study in Romans chapter seven.

We’re back in Romans today.  You may have noticed, sin is minimized, downplayed and even glamorized in our world.  But when you open and study your Bible you discover the truth about sin.  It’s ugly and deceitful.  Jeff Johnson uncovers the sinfulness of sin.

Pastor Jeff Johnson will recall the courageous stand taken by three young Hebrews.  They refused to bow the knee to the King, in the face of a fiery furnace.  Pastor Jeff is about to relate this to what we’re facing today, and how courage is desperately needed at this very hour.

We can easily fall into one of two extremes.  On the one hand, thinking the Christian life is all about obeying the law.  And the other, would be thinking the law isn’t necessary!  But today pastor Jeff will help us arrive at a biblical understanding of the law and its role in our lives.
September 16, 2022
So many today are trying to live up to a standard that is unattainable, instead of recognizing the law was intended to show us we can’t keep it and drive us to a Savior. And we need a Savior who not only can save guilty sinners but also bring about freedom and holiness in our lives.  Today on Sound Doctrine we’ll recognize this tendency we have so we don’t miss out on the true sanctifying work of Jesus!
