The Power of Prayer and Being Poured - Episode 2

March 18, 2019

When it comes to some believer’s relationship with the Lord, there is the existence of apathy more than effectiveness. Pastor Jeff Johnson shares that God doesn’t allow His children to sit in apathy very long. That’s why Paul the apostle prayed for the Thessalonians to increase and abound in love to one another just as Paul abounded in love towards them. As we allow God to accomplish His work of refining so that we are effective, we will begin to see and hear God in areas of life we may not have heard before. So, if you have your Bible, please turn with us to 1 Thessalonians 3 as we look at “The Power of Prayer and Being Poured”

When it comes to prayer, do you find you don’t get the answers you expect? Is it possible that you don’t receive the desired answers because you don’t pray specifically enough? As Paul the apostle sought the well being of the church in Thessalonica, he asked God for specific things to do in their lives. Pastor Jeff reminds us in what ways these specific prayers can bring God glory as we are submitted to His will in our lives. With that in mind, let’s consider how God wants us to grow in the Power of Prayer and Being Poured with Pastor Jeff Johnson in 1  Thessalonians 3.

The key to going deeper in our relationship with Jesus Christ is focused dissatisfaction. If we are dissatisfied with our level of spiritual growth, that will cause us to go further with Jesus. However, the opposite is true as well. If we are satisfied with material possessions and externals we will not focus on our spiritual growth. Pastor Jeff Johnson reminds us that we should ask God to cause us to be dissatisfied so that our roots will go deeper in His agape love. With more on that, let’s go to 1 Thessalonians 3 for our time in the Word with Pastor Jeff Johnson.

Sincere love and concern for others seems to be in short supply these days. Living in the “me” or “self” generation, there are many who have no love for others when they are pre-occupied with love for themselves. That’s why the apostle Paul stands out in any era. He was so focused on loving the believers in Thessalonica, that his life was so engaged in making sure they were being established in their faith, even in the midst of great trials. Pastor Jeff Johnson says Paul’s whole purpose in writing these letters was to make sure the believers were established in God’s agape love. So join us as we begin our study in 1 Thessalonians 3 for our time in Sound Doctrine.

When it comes to the love of God reaching others, it’s not something that can be faked. God calls those whose hearts He has changed to sacrificially and unconditionally love those whose hearts He wants to change. And the more we walk with Him, the more God is able to cause His love to abound to others through us. With initial study titled, “God’s Compassion and Agape Love,” join us for the next few moments as we open up God’s word in 1 Thessalonians 3 for our time in Sound Doctrine with Pastor Jeff Johnson

Progress reports. When it comes to academics, they’re not used in a positive context. It generally means to check up because you’re not doing well with school. But in the church of Thessalonica Paul the apostle wanted a progress report on the believers there. He cared for them as a nurturing parent, desiring the best for his children. The same is true today. We ought to monitor how new believers are doing in order to build up their faith where they need it. Pastor Jeff is finishing our study titled, “A Comforter Sent - To Be a Timothy.” So join us in 1 Thessalonians 3 as we begin our study in Sound Doctrine.

When it comes to Bible characters, which would you choose to best describe you? Maybe a Paul, or Peter, or maybe even an Elijah? However, not too many times do we hear Timothy make the cut when selecting Bible characters. Yet on today’s edition of Sound Doctrine Pastor Jeff says that each one of us is called to model the ministry of Timothy as God used him in the church of Thessalonica. Through Timothy’s ministry, God caused the church to be encouraged and strengthened in their faith. And if you and I are walking in sincere discipleship with our Lord, our hearts will beat with that same desire in mind. So, join us for the next few moments as we look at our study titled, “To Be a Timothy” in 1 Thessalonians 3 for our time in Sound Doctrine.

Whether or not you know it, part of the reason you are working where you are, going to school where you are, and live where you live is because God has called you as a missionary to those people at that location. God has called you to not only work, live, and study where you do, but He has called you to be an ambassador for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As we begin a new chapter in Thessalonians, Pastor Jeff Johnson reminds us that just as Timothy was sent to the church in Thessalonica, so we have been sent to establish and encourage believers while sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. So, with more on that, let’s join Pastor Jeff in 1 Thessalonians 3 for a rich time in Sound Doctrine.

Pastor Jeff Johnson speaking about football awards ceremony reminds us that it is only through the path of getting hit and knocked that the players will receive their awards. The same is true for the Christian as well. As we live for Jesus we too will take our lumps. However, the path that is marked by obstacles for the Christian will always end in at the judgment seat of Christ where evaluation and hopefully awards await us as well. With more on that, let’s join Pastor Jeff in our final run of the study titled, “Never, Never, Never Give Up!”

Jesus said that the thief doesn’t come except to steal, kill, and destroy. That’s an apt description of Satan’s tactics towards God’s people. He patiently works on bringing us down until we are ineffective, discouraged, and removed from being a threat to his kingdom of darkness. Pastor Jeff Johnson says though the enemy tries to sift us, Jesus is praying for us, and He has won the battle for the believer. It is a real battle and Jesus allows us to engage in this battle in His might and His leading. So, join us for the next few moments in 1 Thessalonians 2 as we resume our study titled, “Never, Never, Never Give Up” for our time in Sound Doctrine.

When it comes to the promise of Jesus to the believer, do you have a cup half empty or cup half full perspective? IOW do you focus on the fact that Jesus has left, or are you looking forward to the fact that Jesus is definitely going to return for us? Pastor Jeff Johnson reminds us that it is important for us to keep our focus on the return of Jesus, just as the disciples did by the power of the Holy Spirit. And now 2,000 years later God wants His church to continue to live and walk by that same power of the Holy Spirit. So join us as we look at 1 Thessalonians 2 for our study titled, “Never, Never, Never, Give up” for our time in Sound Doctrine.
