We hear a lot about love these days, and while many view it merely as a warm gushy feeling that comes and goes on a moment’s notice, the Bible portrays it in a far different light!  Today on Sound Doctrine we go deeper into First John chapter two, and deal with a couple of verses that speak volumes about God’s love and how it motivates us to obey His commands and steer clear of sin.

When we’re living for Jesus, we can expect to be treated as Jesus was.  That means we’ll be persecuted and even hated at times.  Maybe we’re not invited to all the parties, or we’re ridiculed on social media, or worse yet we lose our very own lives.  But there’s also a blessing to be experienced, for those that are persecuted for righteousness sake.

Being a Christian today usually doesn’t win you a popularity contest.  We’ll be hated and even persecuted at times, when we’re living for the Lord.  But that shouldn’t surprise us, as the Bible said this would be the case.  Today on Sound Doctrine we’ll hear about the blessing attached to those who are persecuted for righteousness sake.  The world may hate you, but God is pleased when you’re living to honor Him, and that’s what counts.

If we’re honest, many of us have a divided heart today.  But the Lord wants us to be single-minded towards Him and pure in heart.  How is that even possible in a world like ours?  We certainly can’t accomplish it on our own, but with the Holy Spirit at work in our lives we can!  That’s the emphasis of today’s study in the Word with pastor Jeff Johnson as he continues through the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew five.

We’re moving at a rather slow pace through the beatitudes in Matthew chapter 5, so as to glean as much as possible from it!  In our study of the Scriptures it becomes increasingly clear that God is concerned with our hearts.  The inner man, our character! And these beatitudes really are revealing the true condition of the heart.

Aren’t you glad that our God is merciful to us, not giving us what we deserve!  But do we display that same merciful heart in our dealings with others?  Let’s say when someone cuts you off on the freeway, or is begging for food on the street corner?  Today on Sound Doctrine we’ll have a closer look at the beatitude, “Blessed are the Merciful for the will be shown mercy.”

When someone does you wrong, do you look for opportunities to settle the score?  Or when you see someone on the news that’s committed a horrendous act of violence, do you hope they’ll rot in hell for it?  Today on Sound Doctrine we’ll see why a Christian is to exhibit mercy.  And God layed  down the perfect example for us to follow in that regard.
