Paul's Final Farewell - Part 1, Episode 2

January 23, 2019

Praise reports, missionary updates, and answered prayer requests are all ways in which we, as believers, communicate what God is doing in various areas of life and ministry. They help us to know how we can pray and partner with those who are communicating with us. The same was true for Paul the apostle. As he wraps up his letter to the Ephesians, he was connecting with them regarding the status and needs that he had as he was serving the Lord. Pastor Jeff helps us to see the importance of communicating those needs to other believers for prayer support and other ways in which we can serve one another. With more, let’s join Pastor Jeff in Ephesians 6 for our study titled, “Paul’s Final Farewell - Part 1” in today’s edition of Sound Doctrine.

Fear can be paralyzing...if we let it. It was Mark Twain who said, “Courage is the resistance of fear, the mastery of fear, not the absence of it.” And Proverbs tells us that the fear of man is a snare. And so it is with the apostle Paul in our text today as he asked for prayer to speak boldly. Pastor Jeff Johnson helps us to see that if God was able to cause Paul to be bold, while in custody of Roman guards, regarding fear of his future, so too we should be able to master the fears that want to prevent us from doing what God has called us to do as His ambassadors. With genuine reflection as to how Paul encouraged him, Pastor Jeff shares with us today. So join us in Ephesians 6 for our study titled, “Paul’s Farewell” for today’s message in Sound Doctrine.

God doesn’t let anything go to waste in our lives. In other words all the things we did and experienced in our Before Christ days, the Lord wants to use in reaching out and identifying with others. It builds a bridge to their lives so that they too may receive God’s salvation as you did. As we conclude our topic on Praying for Others, Pastor Jeff Johnson helps us to see that praying is the beginning, middle, and end of the cycle as we lift up those around us while we share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Here’s Pastor Jeff to expand on this topic in Ephesians 6 for today’s encouragement in Sound Doctrine.

Any search on Amazon will show hundreds of books offering self-help; ways in which we can thrive in life or avoid trials or difficulty. However Pastor Jeff Johnson says that just as Paul the apostle experienced trials and imprisonment there are times when God allows us to go through trials so that even then we can be joyful and would be willing to glorify the Lord. As we work our way through our study in spiritual warfare, we find a liberating principle that God who began a good work in us will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. And with that, let’s join Pastor Jeff in Ephesians 6 for today’s exhortation in Sound Doctrine

“Seeing is believing”. That has long been held as our many people’s motto in our country. And while it may apply to some circumstances, it is counterintuitive when it comes to prayer. Believing causes us to pray and prayer then is a part of watching God bring His will to pass. As we continue our series on Praying for Others Pastor Jeff Johnson says that we need to make certain that praying for others is a key characteristic of our lives so that we are able to interfere with the activity of the enemy….in our lives and the lives of others. So join us for the next few moments as we explore greater depths to this spiritual weapon of praying for others in Ephesians 6 for today’s edition of Sound Doctrine

A characteristic trait of being an American is the ability to lift yourself out of challenging or difficult circumstances and overcoming the odds on your own. However, in the body of Christ, as many members see one another going through difficult circumstances, we reach out and thus seek to build one another up. As we continue our series in Ephesians looking at praying for others, Pastor Jeff tells us that it is Satan’s attacks to weaken us so that we will be out of prayer or fellowship or the Word of God. However, the more we pray for each other in the Lord, the more those gaps of weakness begin to diminish. So join us as we finish our study titled

Some relationships are co-dependent. It is a one-sided relationship where one party clings to an unhealthy degree to another. However, in the body of Christ, as believers, we have an interdependent relationship upon each other. We all receive eternal life from God’s Spirit dwelling within us, but God has caused no one believer to live and serve Him independent of the entire body of Christ. As we probe deeper into our topic of Praying for Others, Pastor Jeff Johnson brings this topic to bear on our attitudes in feeling like we need each other vs. knowing that we are commanded to pray for one another, whether we sense it or not.  So join us as we spend the next few moments in Ephesians 6 in our time of Sound Doctrine.

Some of the trials and challenges we experience will never be remedied until we have learned the habit of maintaining a focus on Jesus instead of obsessively focused on ourselves. When we realize that we have a God who has promised to take care of us and love us, we can trust an unknown future to a known God. As we begin a series on Intercessory prayer, Pastor Jeff reminds us that the key to praying more for others is thinking more about others first. As we do this and intercede for them, we will see God’s hand working in their lives and our hearts changed by Him. With more on that, let’s join Pastor Jeff in Ephesians 6 for today’s encouragement in Sound Doctrine.

God tells us through His word to call upon Him. And when we do He will answer and show us great and mighty things which we didn’t know. And G.K. Chesterton said that Christianity hasn’t been tried and found wanting. It’s been found difficult and left untried, meaning that one of the reasons we don’t hear from God is that we don’t want to meet the requirements to be able to hear. However, as we pray and surrender our lives to the Lord, He is more than willing to cause us to hear His voice. With more on that, let’s join Pastor Jeff in Ephesians 6 for our study titled, “Praying in the Spirit” in Sound Doctrine.

When it comes to wondering what God is doing in our lives, Pastor Jeff helps us to remember how prayer puts us back into His purposes, aligning our heart and our desires with His. If you want a change of heart, pour it out to God who is able to move it where it is supposed to be. Surrendering all the issues of our hearts to the Lord demonstrates to God that we trust Him and want Him to work in our lives. With more on the building blocks of this powerful weapon in our arsenal against evil, join us as we continue our study titled, “Praying in the Spirit” for our time in Sound Doctrine with Pastor Jeff Johnson.

John Bunyan, author of the Christian classic Pilgrim’s Progress  said, “Prayer is a shield to the soul, a sacrifice to God, and a scourge for Satan. Yet when it comes to using it as a scourge for Satan, we often treat it like the fire alarms that read in emergency break glass, saving prayer for a rare occasion. In our episode of Sound Doctrine today, Pastor Jeff Johnson shows us not just the effectiveness, but the personal need that each believer has when it comes to prayer. As you follow along in our study, we pray that the Lord will encourage, challenge, and inspire you in your prayer life as well. With that in mind, let’s get in to Ephesians 6 for our message titled, “Praying in the Spirit” with Pastor Jeff Johnson.
