Our Hope Part 2

March 13, 2021

God has blessed us in so many ways.  One of the many blessings we enjoy as believers in Christ, is the subject of today’s broadcast.  We possess a living hope, and it cannot be adversely affected by life, death, or even a virus!  Today on Sound Doctrine that’s brought to our attention in a powerful way.  We’re just getting started with our study of First Peter, and we’re in chapter one.  Remember this letter was written to believers who were suffering a great deal, and this is God’s encouragement to all that fit that description!

Freedom is something we’ve enjoyed here in America. Soldiers have fought to keep it that way.  And God wants us to live as free people.  With that said, there is a danger you want to be aware of that goes along with this.  We can easily take things too far, and before you know it, we’re starting to use our freedom as a coverup for evil.  This warning comes to our attention today on Sound Doctrine, as pastor Jeff Johnson visits First Peter 2:16.

Pastor Jeff Johnson is knee deep into his study of First Peter.  We’ll be in chapter two. Civil unrest and lawlessness… we’ve seen that in large measure in recent months haven’t we?  But as we’ll learn today, God calls us to obey, submit to and respect those in authority!  It’s much needed words of encouragement for days like these!

It’s clearly evident that being a spectator cannot solve the problems we’re facing as a nation!  Rather than sit back and just wait for the coming of the Lord, we’re to be fully engaged in whatever God calls us to do. We’re going to see what being a witness for the Lord looks like in 2021.

It’s been well said, that, “Hypocrisy (lying to others) leads to duplicity (lying to yourself)!”  When that happens you’re living a lie.  Right becomes wrong and light becomes darkness.  How can anyone live in that kind of world? We’ll explore that and its implications today on Sound Doctrine. We open up First Peter chapter two today and we’ll emphasize verses eleven and twelve.  It provides encouragement for those who seek to be a light in darkness, and do what’s right in the midst of wrong.

People by and large are longing to live the good life, but what really is the good life?  The world has its own ideas, usually wrapped up in making a name for yourself and creating a large bank account.  But God sees it much differently.  We’ll learn today on Sound Doctrine that the good life is experiencing peace with God.  Pastor Jeff Johnson shows us how to enter in, through his study in First Peter chapter two.

Have you ever received a note of encouragement right in the midst of great suffering?  A well-spoken word at just the right time can really be helpful. And that’s what we find in the epistle of First Peter.  It was written to Christians who were unjustly persecuted, and encountering fiery trials.   We can benefit from the letter too, and receive God’s encouragement and instruction for this difficult season of life we’re in.  Today on Sound Doctrine pastor Jeff Johnson speaks of a living hope.

Jesus faced rejection when He was on earth, and so will we as His followers.  Perhaps we’ll be ridiculed, passed over for a job promotion, or maybe even looked down upon by our own family.  Today on Sound Doctrine pastor Jeff Johnson delivers encouraging words from First Peter, which was written to suffering saints.  In chapter two Jesus is described as the cornerstone, and we are living stones in a relationship with Him!  That means we’re going to face the same kind of rejection He experienced.
