Occupation Orders - Episode 2

April 18, 2019

God gives impossible promises to help us through impossible circumstances. When we read passages that tell us to rejoice always or in everything give thanks we’re tempted to dismiss it altogether. However, His promises shine impossible in the day, but always shine brightest in the night of our lives. Pastor Jeff Johnson helps us to see how these commands given in 1 Thessalonians  provide the strength we need as we walk through various challenges within and outside the church. We invite you to turn to 1 Thessalonians 5 as we look at our Occupation Orders with Pastor Jeff Johnson.

The return of Jesus Christ is soon. How soon, we don’t know for sure. But, as Jesus encouraged, we do see the signs of the times. And as the times get darker according to various passages in the Word, we recognize that God has given us a job to do until He returns. Pastor Jeff Johnson takes us through 1 Thessalonians 5 with commands that call attention to our spiritual job description as believers while we wait and watch for the soon return of Jesus Christ. We invite you to follow along in 1 Thessalonians 5 as we begin our study titled, “Occupation Orders” for our time in Sound Doctrine.

The sour person says that life would be great, if it weren’t for all the people. That saying illustrates that while God loves us and Jesus died for us, it can be challenging to bearing with and encouraging those who require attention and help. It’s almost like being in a family. And that’s where we finish our study titled, “Family Matters” in 1 Thessalonians. Pastor Jeff helps us to see Jesus’ heart through Paul’s words in loving and leading those members that God seeks to minister to. So join us in 1 Thessalonians 5 for an encouraging time in Sound Doctrine.

As we come to the end of our time in the book of 1 Thessalonians, Pastor Jeff Johnson gives us a behind the scenes look at Pastoral ministry. It is a part of the Christian’s call to live peacefully with one another. So join us for the next few moments as we join Pastor Jeff in 1 Thessalonians 5 for our study titled, “Family Matters” in our time in Sound Doctrine.

It is no secret that God has given gifts to the church. Among them are those who are called to serve in the body of Jesus Christ. And while scandals throughout distant and recent memory have tarnished some of those who claim to represent God, Pastor Jeff reminds us that there are many still faithfully serving Jesus. And God is calling more of those who will take heed to the call to come and  serve the Lord. With more on that, let’s join Pastor Jeff in 1 Thessalonians 5 for our study titled, “Family Matters” for our spiritual encouragement in Sound Doctrine.

Not too long ago one of the top wireless carriers had a character whose tag line was, “Can you hear me now?” It illustrated how common the loss of communication and dropped calls on certain carriers. In the same way, there is a loss of people feeling like they’re being heard as well, living lives of quiet desperation as Thoreau once penned. Pastor Jeff Johnson reminds us that there is a need for our world to receive comfort. And just as we have received comfort from Jesus, so too it is important to pass along that same comfort to others. With our final study titled, “What is our Hope?” let’s join Pastor Jeff in 1 Thessalonians 5 for our time in Sound Doctrine.

Do you have hope as you walk in this life? If so, what is the reason for your hope, or  the source of your hope? Some people hope in material possessions, in career advancement, in relationships, or other things. But as a believer in Jesus Christ, Pastor Jeff Johnson outlines 5 sources of hope that we have. As we continue through 1 Thessalonians 5 we notice that even though we go through trials and difficulties like everyone else, yet we have a hope that is eternal and found in Jesus Christ that causes us to escape the Great Tribulation. With more on our study titled, “What is Our Hope?” Let’s join Pastor Jeff in 1 Thessalonians 5 for our time in Sound Doctrine.

Weddings are a celebration like no other. Every aspect of the ceremony communicates joy, and all who witness it take part in the happiness.  So it is with the bride of Christ when Jesus takes us home. There will be no occasion for sadness. However, wrath will be the portion for those who remain on the earth. As Pastor Jeff Johnson delves into what is our hope as believers, we notice God’s special appointment for us, His people, and for the world.

Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path, David said in Psalm 119. But for many it’s not God’s word that illuminates people’s lives, instead, it’s their smartphone, for others it’s the stock market news, and still for others it’s their spouse or family. However, Pastor Jeff Johnson reminds us that God’s Word is the final authority, true filter, and everlasting foundation for you and I to base our lives on. And as believers we are called to wake up, clean up, and dress up because Jesus’ soon return is close. So with that in mind, let’s join Pastor Jeff for our final installment of the message titled, “How Should WE Be Living?” in 1 Thess 5 for our time in Sound Doctrine.

Wake Up! Clean Up! And Dress Up! These are the action words that Pastor Jeff Johnson is encouraging us with as we look forward to the return of Jesus Christ. God has work for us to do until His Son comes for His church. And for some, there has been a lethargic spiritual slumber. God wants to cause us to be stirred and awakened to the reality of His soon return. As you listen to these principles that Pastor Jeff teaches on today, we encourage you to be intentional in investing in your spiritual growth by taking notes, if you can. So, let’s join Pastor Jeff as we consider the topic of “How Should We Be Living” in our time in Sound Doctrine in 1 Thessalonians 5.

Have you ever heard someone ask, “If you knew you only had 1 day to live…” question? Well what about the, “If you knew what time Jesus was coming back for His people,” question. To answer that question, look at those people who go to church on Sundays but live for themselves all throughout the week. They believe in church as their “fire insurance” or escape from judgment without a care to live for Jesus Christ. As we look the Christian’s lifestyle in light of Jesus’ return, Pastor Jeff asks the question, “How Should We Be Living?” We discover that God has specific expectations for those of us who remain until Jesus Christ returns for us. So, let’s turn to 1 Thessalonians 5 for our time in Sound Doctrine, with Pastor Jeff Johnson.
