God Provides, Part 2

1 Thessalonians 5:18 says "In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." Thru any circumstance, a thankful heart is one of the greatest witnesses a Christian can express. On the flip side, an unthankful heart can be a bad witness for a Christian. Today, Pastor Jeff says to seek first God's Kingdom, and everything else will be provided for us.

During the reign of King Rehoboam "Judah did evil in the sight of the Lord." We'll learn today, that the idols they worshiped, provoked God to jealousy. Sadly, idols still exist in our present day. It may be a car, house, or even money, but whatever is taking preeminence in our life is an idol. Today, Pastor Jeff exhorts us to allow Christ to be the Lord of our hearts. Isaish 57:1 says, "The righteous is taken away from evil." As we continue part 2 of our study called "Not Finishing Well," we learn that King Jeroboams evil behavior, results in the death of his child. At times, it could be hard to understand, that God would allow a child to die. But Pastor Jeff says, "sometimes, God takes the righteous home with Him, because of the evil He see's in the future." At one time; Gods mercy came upon king Jeroboam. But the scripture says, "He did not turn from his evil way." Today, we'll begin to learn the results of Jeroboams behavior, and see that his family is at the center of his consequences. Proverbs 3:12 says "The Lord disciplines those He loves." Today, we see the chastening of the Lord, with an unnamed man of God. Although this man gave a prophetic message to king Jeroboam, his obedience was tested, and he chose to compromise rather then obey. Today on Sound Doctrine Pastor Jeff says, "To Obey is Always Better."

In responding to the religious authority of their day, Peter and the apostles cried out "we must obey God rather than men." Full of pride; Solomon's son Rehoboam is now running the kingdom. The people of Israel are suffering, and complaining against the king, but he continues to show them no mercy. Today, Pastor Jeff teaches us "the key to authority is humility." As Christians, we must be on guard against a prideful heart, because the Bible says "Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall."

Like Samson, Solomon started great, but didn't finish well. Because of his disobedience, his wealth and accomplishments ended in vanity. Today, we begin a study entitled "No Ears To Hear," and Solomon's son Rehoboam will begin ruling in his fathers place. But will he start as a wise or foolish king?
