God is Love, So Walk in Love - Part 1

August 15, 2018

As believers we live inbetween two worlds. The physical world of the here and now. And the future that is to come, brought by Jesus Christ. While we recognize that the days are growing darker as time progresses on this world, this should cause us to look up with hopeful expectation because our redemption is drawing near. In Ephesians 5 we are given commands on how to walk, a practical guide on how to be in the world, but not of the world. With more on our study titled, “God is love, so Walk in Love,” here is Pastor Jeff Johnson.

We all like the idea of being tender hearted. The grace and love that flows through that heart resembles Jesus. And we love the idea. But the practice of forgiveness is our challenge. Mark Twain said, “Forgiveness is the fragrance the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it.” In today’s edition of Sound Doctrine Pastor Jeff Johnson helps us to adopt a Biblical perspective on the how and why we forgive from Ephesians 4. If you’re able, we invite you to grab your Bible and take notes for our final message in our study titled, “Hard Hearted or Tender Hearted?” with Pastor Jeff Johnson.

When it comes to developing a hardened heart, we discover that it doesn’t happen overnight. Through the process of time, offenses we have received continue to fester within our minds. But we don’t have to allow it to be that way either. In our study of Sound Doctrine today, Pastor Jeff Johnson tells us that we need to put up a good spiritual fight to bring ourselves to obey the Lord and watch Him restore a tender heart once again. We invite you to join us for our study titled, “Hard Hearted or Tender Hearted” in Ephesians 4 with Pastor Jeff Johnson.

Robert Frost’s poem, “The Road Not Taken” details two paths in the woods. Knowing he can only take one, he consoles himself saying he’ll get to the other path another time. As you read the poem, you realize Frost is talking about life choices. Today on Sound Doctrine the apostle Paul is showing us two divergent paths in the Christian life. One leads to blessing with Christ, while the other leads to bondage. Pastor Jeff reminds us of the importance to choose God’s way because Satan is always looking to bring us down. With more on that, let’s begin our study titled, “Hard-Hearted or Tender-Hearted” with Pastor Jeff Johnson.

The process of grieving the Holy Spirit always follows resisting what God is trying to do through His conviction in our hearts. The more we resist the more numb and dull our sense of His conviction becomes. But conversely the more we listen and obey when He is speaking to us, the more we are pleasing to Him. In our final episode of “Grieving the Spirit - Part 2” we discover that the battle between flesh and the Spirit is won as we surrender to the Lord on a daily basis with godly habits, thoughts which make a lifestyle of feeding ourselves with God’s Word, fellowship, and prayer. We invite you to join us in Ephesians 4 for today’s study with Pastor Jeff Johnson.

Judging by believer’s reaction, the topic of who the Holy Spirit is and how He works can be a challenging for God’s people to engage in. However, D.L. Moody said, “You might as well try to hear without ears, or breathe without lungs, as try to live a Christian life without the Spirit of God in your heart.” In our second episode of “Grieving the Holy Spirit Part 2” Pastor Jeff helps us to see how we need to engage and invite God’s Spirit to work in our lives and then allow Him to work in us according to the Scriptures. With more on that let’s join Pastor Jeff Johnson in Ephesians 4 for today’s edition of Sound Doctrine.

As believers we all say that we want to be pleasing to God. But part of knowing how to please God is knowing those sins, attitudes, and habits that grieve His Spirit. As we continue on in our series called “Grieving the Holy Spirit - Part 2, Pastor Jeff tries to pull the veil back so we can see how believers can end up serving the Spirit of God by the power and energy of the flesh. In our study he shows that though every believer has the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit may not have every believer. Join us as we begin our study of Ephesians 4 for today’s encouragement in Sound Doctrine.

Someone once said, “One of the first things that happens when a man is really filled with the Spirit is not that he speaks with tongues, but that he learns to hold the one tongue he already has.” In today’s edition of Sound Doctrine Pastor Jeff Johnson helps us to see how the Holy Spirit works in our lives to convict and teach us how to use our tongues in a way that edifies others and glorifies God. It’s our final installment of the study titled, “Grieving the Holy Spirit Part 1”. Grab your Bible and join us for the next few moments as we continue in today’s edition of Sound Doctrine.

Do you remember the children’s rhyme: “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” Whoever said that certainly wasn’t aware of the powerful impact of the words we use. With our words, we can build up, encourage, and inspire. And with our words we can destroy reputations and people’s lives. As we continue in our study in Ephesians we discover how our words can grieve God’s Spirit or be used for good. Won’t you join us with our message titled, “Grieving the Holy Spirit - Part 1” for today’s edition of Sound Doctrine with Pastor Jeff Johnson.

When it comes to evidence of being a believer in Jesus Christ. One of the quickest and most notable signs of the presence of being born again is a changed tongue from a changed heart. However, when we wander from God, our tongues and words will betray us. As we discover the command in Ephesians today, Paul the apostle gives us some of the most common ways we sever our fellowship with God. If you have your Bible, you’ll definitely want to take notes as we begin our series titled, “Grieving the Holy Spirit - Part 1” for today’s encouragement in Sound Doctrine.

It shouldn’t surprise us that when we walk in disobedience we give the enemy an opportunity to wreak havoc in our lives. But the enemy is content to simply stay there. He desires to more and more territory in our lives until we are defeated, frustrated, and distant from God. In today’s edition of Sound Doctrine Pastor Jeff Johnson takes us through 5 commands from the apostle Paul and the reasons for them. We invite you to join us in our study titled, “Hoof and Mouth Disease,” in Ephesians 4.
