Go Make Disciples Part 2b

April 22, 2020

In the midst of the Pandemic there are opportunities all around us to help and encourage people.  Question is, are you willing to be used of God?  If you do, you can be sure you’ll be blessed as will the people you’re serving and witnessing to.  Today on Sound Doctrine, we’re encouraged to go into the world and make disciples.

What a blessing it is to have good and godly friends, who will stand by our side and encourage us in the ways of the Lord.  Can you think of someone in your life that fits that description?  Today on Sound Doctrine pastor Jeff Johnson draws attention to a precious friendship and relationship between Paul and Timothy.  It all began in Lystra.  As we turn to Acts sixteen, we’ll discover that we each need a Timothy in our lives that we can disciple.

Proverbs 11:30 says, He that wins souls is wise!  God wants us involved in the work of an evangelist, but it doesn’t stop there.  He also wants us to make disciples. And we see a picture of that as the second missionary journey gets underway in Acts sixteen today on Sound Doctrine.

Jesus told us, “Go into all the world and make disciples!”  That’s our calling as Christians, and the opportunities to do that are all around us.  How are you doing in that department?  If you’re like most, you could use a little encouragement.  And that’s what we’ll have for you today on Sound Doctrine as we open Acts chapter sixteen.

We’ve heard it often, and may have even committed it to memory: God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to His purpose.  But does that even include conflict?  You bet!  We see an example of that in Acts chapter fifteen today on Sound Doctrine.  Pastor Jeff Johnson points out how God often uses sinful, stubborn people to get the work of ministry accomplished.

We’ll have disagreements and conflicts from time to time.  Whether it’s with our spouse, coworker or someone in the church.  And we’re sure we’re right and the other is wrong! Our flesh can get the best of us at such times!  But today on Sound Doctrine, we’ll be encouraged to hear that God can turn things around, and good can come from these personal conflicts.

In Acts chapter fifteen Paul and Barnabus had a disagreement that led to them going their separate ways.  That happens all the time, even in our day.  But pastor Jeff Johnson doesn’t want us to miss what God accomplished in and through it all!  Over the course of the next few broadcasts we’ll observe how God guided through the conflict, and good came out of it.

We’ve all had our fair share of disagreements and conflict with others, and sometimes it can even lead to a parting of the ways like it did for a couple of guys we’ll meet up with today on Sound Doctrine.  Pastor Jeff Johnson has a look into how God sometimes guides us through the conflict, like He did with Paul and Barnabus.

When we left you last time, pastor Jeff was considering a couple of things concerning Jesus’ death on the cross.  The piercing of His body and the preparation of the body of Christ. We’ll take a look at the placing of the body today, with the realization that He didn’t stay in the tomb!  By the way, that can be your story too.  You too can experience a resurrection from the grave.

All this week we’re looking back to what Jesus accomplished at the cross for us.  And as we’ll see in a moment it was the most painful death imaginable.  As pastor Jeff Johnson draws our attention to the piercing and preparation of the body of Christ let’s allow it to lead our hearts toward grateful praise and adoration.  Our Savior did all of this and more for us!
