The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is a phrase that evokes a wide range of emotions depending upon who you are. If you have a more conservative denominational background it can conjure images of out of control and exaggerated movement. Pastor Jeff Johnson says it doesn’t have to be that way. As a matter of fact, God has given us HIs Spirit for two major purposes that will make a radical difference in our lives for the Lord. Each of us has our own favorite area of being a part of the body of Christ and in our local church. For some of us it is the joy of worship. There is an excitement to give to the Lord all in spirit and truth. For others it is the expectation of the imminent return of Jesus Christ. The longing to compare current trends of the day with what Scripture reveals about the End Times. Pastor Jeff Johnson says that all of those are a part of our relationship with the Lord. When gossip, slander, and division happen in the church, it can happen when believers fail to take our cue from the head of the body, Jesus Christ. In today’s edition of Sound Doctrine, we come to our final study titled, “Walk in Unity.” Pastor Jeff Johnson gives us 7 keys to walking in unity as outlined in Ephesians chapter 4. As we put into practice what is outlined in our study, we will discover that unity and harmony will flow. Ever since the book of Exodus it has been understood that neighbors share a responsibility to look out for one another. Even Jesus illustrated the point by using a Samaritan as an example of a good neighbor. And it’s also where we get the idea of Neighborhood Watches. But in today’s edition of Sound Doctrine Pastor Jeff Johnson shows us that the person who walks in unity gives the greatest indication as to whether or not they actually walk with the Lord. With so many people professing their Christianity, it is the believer who seeks out unity in order to be a peacemaker that reveals they are a son or daughter of God. When you consider all the things that we as people are willing to work for, it reveals where our priorities are. We work for our families, financial gain, for overall well being. But the Bible calls us all to make sure that we work equally or even more so when it comes to unity in the body of Christ. For our Thursday edition of Sound Doctrine Pastor Jeff Johnson reminds us of how unity already exists in the Spirit. What we have to do as believers is to make sure that we are walking in God’s Spirit and to be in harmony with the Lord so that we experience and maintain His unity. Being a real believer is about where you walk. And Paul the apostle has been giving us the road map as to where that walk needs to be. If we don’t have a map, we won’t know where to go and quickly discover we are drifting or lost. In our final installment of our study titled, “Are You the Real Deal,” Pastor Jeff Johnson says that it’s not simply in what Christian vernacular you use or how often you use it on Sundays. As a Christian we have been given a faith-based relationship with Jesus Christ. We know of God’s love. We have seen it demonstrated on the cross of Christ. So when it comes to pursuing experiences as the totality of our Christian life, they are passing and unreliable. Today on Sound Doctrine Pastor Jeff Johnson says If you have to continually live in an experience-oriented condition with God, you haven’t learned to walk by faith. As believers we experience with God what no one else in the world can experience: a life of love and service from Grace, not works. IOW What we do for Jesus is always in light of what Jesus has already done for us. The more we follow and obey and serve Jesus shows that we are living in light of all that God has done for us. When we last met, Pastor Jeff Johnson was encouraging us to maintain a surrendered and dependent attitude upon the Holy Spirit, so that our heart would be Christ’s home. Today on Sound Doctrine he reminds us that when we stumble and fall; when we sin, God desires us to come again and asked to be filled with His Spirit over and over again...because we leak. As we continue to come to the Lord over and over again, we will cultivate that dependence upon God’s Spirit and notice that we leak less and less. While we all want greater prayer lives, we desire to see God do more in and through our lives. it seems the one obstacle standing in our way seems to be...actually taking the time to pray. For some it is simply the idea that God doesn’t answer our prayers in the way we think He should. Martin Luther said, “Prayer is not overcoming God’s reluctance, but laying hold of His willingness.” In Ephesians 3 today, Pastor Jeff Johnson shows the posture of prayer that Paul possessed as he interceded for the church in Ephesus.
