Daniel's Prayer Part 1

May 6, 2023

We’ll join pastor Jeff Johnson in Daniel chapter nine this weekend.  How’s your prayer life going these days?  We all have room for growth in this area that’s for sure.  We can learn a lot by studying the prayers in the Bible.  And the prayer recorded here in Daniel nine is truly incredible.  Today pastor Jeff encourages a prayer life that is always motivated by the Word of God and grounded in the will of God.

Sexual scandal, lies, coverup… sounds like something we’d see in a movie or hear on the news today.  But it’s also the headliner for Genesis chapter twenty!  As you’ll hear in a moment Abraham, the father of our faith, falls into the same sin that God had previously delivered him from. Pastor Jeff Johnson will use our time together on Sound Doctrine to explain why integrity and character is so important in a day and age where it’s hard to find.

On today’s broadcast Pastor Jeff Johnson takes us into  Genesis chapter twenty, and Abraham finds himself having to repeat a grade in the school of faith.  You see  Abraham falls into the sin from which God had previously and mercifully delivered him.  Sound familiar? You no doubt, as we all do, have areas of weakness in your life.  And God in His mercy seeks to help us with that!

God is about to judge Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis nineteen.  Just before this occurred He mercifully told Lot and his family to leave and flee to the mountains and don’t look back. As you may know, his wife looked back and died as a result.  Pastor Jeff believes this is a powerful reminder of what can happen to us when we turn back to the world!

Could it get any worse?  Has that thought raced through your mind recently as you consider the moral depravity all around us?  It’s reminiscent of the days of Lot as you’ll soon see.  But this shouldn’t surprise us, as the Lord said it would be so.  Pastor Jeff Johnson will take us to Genesis chapter nineteen where God is going to judge Sodom and Gomorrah, but before He does, He removes the righteous.  Pastor Jeff believes the same thing will occur before the Tribulation period.

In Luke seventeen the Lord compares the days of Lot to the world just before Jesus returns. Pastor Jeff says we see a pattern emerge in our study of the Scriptures as well.  Before God judges He delivers the righteous.  That’s seen in the story of Lot and the same holds true at the Tribulation.

This weekend we continue our study of Daniel.  In chapter eight we run across Daniel’s second vision.  While much of this prophecy has already been fulfilled, some of it deals with future events that could take place in the not too-distant future.  Hear all about the end time Anti-Christ as you join us for today’s Sound Doctrine.

More and more Christians these days are being influenced by the world.  It’s seen in how they think, and act.  And today we’ll see the consequences are severe when this happens.  But you can choose another path in life, and that is to be a godly man or woman.

In Genesis chapter nineteen, we see the consequences of unrepentant sin, as Sodom and Gomorrah are destroyed. And we also see what can happen when a Christian becomes worldly.  Maybe that would describe you today?  Perhaps a wake-up call is in order?

We all go through hard times and face challenges in life.  Sometimes it can be so overwhelming, we may even wonder if it’s too big for God to handle. But today on Sound Doctrine pastor Jeff Johnson recalls the story of Abraham and Sarah in Genesis chapter eighteen.  In the midst of it all, the question is asked, “Is anything too hard for the Lord?”  The answer is No!  And maybe that’s something you need to be reminded of today, in light of the difficulty you’re facing.

Maybe you’re facing what looks to be an impossible situation today?  Today on Sound Doctrine be encouraged as we have a look at Genesis chapter eighteen, and the story of Abraham and Sarah.  Just picture it, Sarah is 90 years of age.  Well past child-bearing age, and yet the Lord tells her and her husband that about this time next year, Sarah will have a son!  Through it all, we’re reminded of the great ability of God.
