Be Free and Grow Up, Part 3

Thanks for joining us today on a Thursdays edition of SDR. We have been going through the series Pastor Jeff has titled, “Be Free and Grow Up”. The Apostle Paul declared, “When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things.” He went on to say “abide in faith, hope, love.” We are not exhorted to abide in legalism, that’s childish. We’ll hear more about this in the conclusion of “Be Free and Grow Up.”

Pastor Jeff explains that legalistic and religious acts, do not make you more holy. We begin a new series today called, “Be Free and Grow Up.”

Thanks for joining us today on SDR. We are at the conclusion of Pastor Jeff’s series titled, “The Promise and the Law." It's been such an encouraging lesson that our righteousness, hope and future is not based on the Law, but on Christ. Jesus gave us the inheritance to the promises of God by believing in Him. No works are needed, no religious catechisms required, but the Word says, the just shall live by faith. Stay tuned for the conclusion of The Promise and the Law.

We have been learning that the promise of God was not found in the practicing of rules but in grace through Christ. We'll pick up with Pastor Jeff as he explains Peter's declaration of the remissions of sin and the promise in Acts 2:38.

Recently a man from Alabama was released from spending 30 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. He will never see his prison cell again because he was found innocent based on new evidence. The Apostle Paul is making the case for liberty from the Law. Because of the evidence of Christ’s life and work on Calvary, humanity has been set free from the death sentence the Law brought. Concerning the Law Martin Luther said, “The Law brings sin, death, and the wrath of God to light. This is the business of the Law, and here the business of the Law ends, and should go no further.” The promise came by the Seed of Abraham, not by the Law. The old adage is true, to strive to attain, means you have to strive to maintain. Righteous living is only found in Jesus who is our righteousness. Abraham didn't do any works, he simply believed and was found righteous. People may think that God's grace is too simple and feel they need to add to it.
