Only when men took their first steps into space did we realize how little we are, and how big the universe really is. We sent our frail bodies roaring aloft in cylinders of metal to protect us from the ferocious extremes of space. More than one astronaut remarked how beautiful the earth looks from orbit. A planet designed by God for you and me.

Sometimes we cannot see the forest for the trees. Once in a while, it is good to pull back the lens and get a wide-angle view. For believers in the race of life, a good question might be, "Just where did this track begin? What was it like before the earth was created?" If you wonder about these things, stay with us.

To many, God seems capricious. He heals some, but lets others die. Some get great wealth; others starve. Running life's race means understanding that faith in God lets God set the priorities. Trusting Him does not mean we will always get what we want. Today: developing a faith not based on the here and now.

Some people pray and God moves mightily. Others pray and God does not come to their aid. One might ask, "Why pray?" As we run the race of life we need to understand the nature of faith as "the substance of things unseen." Today, developing a faith that is not dependent on what we can see.

How do you handle unanswered prayer? What do you do when it seems your requests to God keep bouncing off the ceiling? From time to time, all believers running life's race find themselves wondering "why" when it seems God is not listening. On today's broadcast: lessons from Hebrews chapter 11 on a faith that does not depend on circumstances.

Back when you were a child, it hurt when you did wrong and Dad spanked you as punishment. But at least you knew you had a Dad. When God disciplines a sinning child, it hurts as well. But we can be certain of being the sons and daughters of God when we feel His heavy hand. What God does when believers willfully sin is our focus today, so stay with us.

Driving along the highway we often see warning signs. To disregard them puts us in real danger of accident and injury. The same is true in the race of life. God has warnings in scripture we'd better face up to, or face the consequences. Today: get ready for some serious stuff from the book of Hebrews.

Not every Bible passage is meant to make us feel good. Some verses challenge our natural inclination to take the easy way. Join others on the race of life in taking stock of your spiritual condition, as today we come face to face with a stern warning from the book of Hebrews.

It is one thing to agree that the sacrifice of Christ was enough to pay for our sins. It is another to make that real in our lives. Today: join others running life's race in learning how the price Jesus paid on the cross can impact your life and mine, now, and forever, and why that one payment is of infinite value to God.

When Jesus said "It is finished," He was declaring the awful price of sin paid in full, for all time, for all who believe. Those who run life's race dogged by guilt can know forgiveness and pardon, because Jesus made what is truly "the supreme sacrifice." Nothing we could ever do can add anything to the value of the payment He has made.
