Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. Back when you were a child, it hurt when you did wrong and Dad spanked you as punishment. But at least you knew you had a Dad. When God disciplines a sinning child, it hurts as well. But we can be certain of being the sons and daughters of God when we feel His heavy hand. What God does when believers willfully sin is our focus today, so stay with us.

To deserve a rest, we need to work hard enough to be tired. And to gain God's spiritual rest, we need to exercise our faith. Those tired from running life's race will appreciate the prospect of God's promised rest. Today: final thoughts about what we must do to receive that rest, and then to enjoy it.

In all of life, there is a time for activity and a time for rest. Thankfully, that is also true in the spiritual realm. The Bible teaches that there is a rest for the people of God. But God's rest for us as believers is conditional upon our obedience. Today: lessons from the book of Hebrews on how to enter into the rest that God has provided.

As we count them, there are small sins and big sins...but in God's sight, there is one biggest sin. It is unbelief. Unbelief keeps people from salvation, and unbelief keeps Christians from fruitfulness. What God thinks of unbelief is one focus of Hebrews chapter three, today's study for those running life's race.
