Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. At Emmaus, the resurrected Jesus walked with disciples who were dejected and sorrowful, and they did not even recognize Him. But their hearts were strangely warmed by this passerby. Inviting Him to dinner, they found themselves face to face with the One they loved, but never expected.

Early on the disciples of Jesus argued over who would sit with Him in the kingdom. But when Jesus died, their dreams died. Their best-laid plans were in ruins. For some, they thought it seemed best to move on and forget those three wonderful years with Christ. In this message we learn how the resurrected Jesus revived their dreams, and how He can revive yours.

In Gethsemane, Jesus roused His sleeping disciples, asking, “Could you not pray with Me one hour?” In this message, each of us is asked the same question. Will we covenant to set aside one hour a week for Jesus?

If you visit Gethsemane, you can see the ancient olive trees. It is a place for tears. There in the garden, Jesus asked the disciples to pray with Him. They fell asleep, causing the Savior to ask, “Could you not watch with Me one hour?”

While on earth, Jesus chose to veil His glory and limit His options. And that’s the key to how we can bring His message to the lost. As we learn why the cross can do what politics can’t, we’ll also find out how to effectively take the cross into the world.

There is a basic dilemma in evangelism. The world thinks the cross we preach is foolishness, but to us, it is the power of God. So how do we bring the message of the cross to a rejecting world? When we begin to imitate the attitude of Christ, in both humility and suffering, we can make the Gospel of God known in the world.

Americans are adrift in a sea of moral relativism. We need a moral compass. The cross of Christ is that compass, and the church must live by the cross if our culture is to survive. Let’s help the world by first calling the church back to the cross of Christ.
