Is God on America's Side? Pt. 2 #1 of 4

January 8, 2009
The separation of Church and State: a premise not found in the Constitution or in the Declaration of Independence. It's referred to in the writings of Thomas Jefferson and has been given a level of authority beyond that of the Bible. It's now a high wall, designed to keep God in a box while we as a nation do whatever we please. So, what's the inevitable outcome?

Christians, Politics, And The Cross
We are living in a time when we desperately need to engage our culture with the only message that has any hope of transforming it. As Pastor Lutzer explores various approaches to the relationship between the state and the church, he reminds us that spiritual redemption, not political reformation, is at the heart of God’s agenda. Only the church, not a political party, can bear God’s message to a hurting world. Click below to receive this book for a gift of any amount or call Moody Church Media at 1.800.215.5001.

"Be not deceived, God is not mocked, for whatsoever a man sows, that will he reap." That goes for nations, as well. The United States has known blessing from the hand of God that few nations in history have been given. But that blessing may be in short supply in the days ahead, as we've turned our backs on the God who gives blessings. To learn more, stay with us.

An economy in free-fall...home values plummeting...jobs disappearing...are these normal cycles which will soon turn around? Or, are these evidence that America is fading from its past glories as God withdraws His protection? Many assume that God will always bless America as He has before. But can we accept the premise that judgment is coming, and may be at our door?

Soon we'll see the dawn of a new administration in Washington. Enormous challenges face our new President and his staff. An economy in collapse, a war on two fronts and an increasing sense that the future may be worse than the past. At this crucial hour, perhaps one question rises above all others: "Is God on America's Side?" For one man's perspective, stay with us.

When King David was on the run from his enemies, he learned to place his hope in God...in fact, to thirst for the living God. Few among us are as thirsty for God as David was. Too many things fill our lives: TV, the internet...the pressures of job and home. But when those things are taken away, our true hunger can be felt...a hunger that only God can fill.

Do you long for God? King David did. For most of us, having all we need means we have little reason to seek God. But David was a hunted man, chased among the rocks of the desert, a man who knew his only hope was in his God. His writings in the Psalms describe a man who learned to thirst for God like he thirsted for water. Today: a look at the ways God uses to draw us to that kind of thirst.

The baby's birth would both divide and unite, and Simeon knew it. Holding Christ in his arms, he beheld the face of God. Today is New Year's Eve. As we measure time, another year is dawning. We need to realize, as Simeon did, that the coming of Christ is the pivotal event of all time, and we must make a choice: what to do with Jesus.
December 31, 2008
It was a moment of destiny. In Jerusalem's temple, Simeon holds the baby Jesus, and his life would never be the same. Now, some two thousand years later, we need to recognize what Simeon recognized...that Christ has authority over all mankind...and that our job is to heed His words: repent, and believe, because this baby determines the destiny of us all.
December 30, 2008
Shortly after the birth of Christ, an old man had the experience of a lifetime. A young couple brought to him the infant Son of God. We who run life's race can scarcely imagine what went through the mind of Simeon, that righteous man in the temple at Jerusalem. His job was to perform a ceremony done for all newborn Jewish males. But this baby was different, and Simeon knew it.

Well, time to head back to the mall...to grab those after-Christmas bargains, and return those clothes that just don't fit. If our broadcast finds you making plans to race to the store, remember that the holiday has it roots in a far different culture at a different time and place. Listen today as Erwin Lutzer brings us down to earth with another view of Christmas.
December 26, 2008
At last the race to the stores is over. Today the kids attack their presents with that annual gleam in their eyes. For most of us, Christmas morning is a happy time as our families gather in the safety of our homes. But as you enjoy this day, take a few minutes with Erwin Lutzer, and consider Christmas from a different viewpoint, from a place far away and a time long, long ago.
