Getting Forgiveness Right, Part 3 of 3 (You Can't Redo Life)

November 8, 2016

One parable of Jesus contains a dire warning. We need to take a careful look at the truth that God will not forgive us if we fail to forgive others from the heart. Work through this teaching with us, and then purpose to be someone who is quick to forgive.

The Eclipse Of God
Just as the moon obscures the sun’s light during an eclipse, today’s radical secularism has obscured the light of God. But God’s light still shines—and He is calling us to shine His light in our growing darkness. Is God more tolerant than He used to be? Pastor Lutzer shows how God is both a God of wrath as well as grace; that He is both merciful and just, and both a redeemer and a judge. Deepen your love for our unchangeable God of the Bible and be empowered to proclaim the light of truth in a culture of darkness. It takes several things to bring a person to faith in Christ. It requires seed, which is the Word of God. It requires a sower, a believer communicating his or her faith.  And it requires receptive soil, something only God can provide.

When the seed of the Gospel is sown, it can land in receptive soil, or, in soil that will not allow the seed to germinate. Today we learn more lessons on how some seed lands where its hearers will accept it and be fruitful.

Jesus compared the spread of the Gospel to the way a sower spreads seed on the ground. The seed only grows if God gives the increase, as Paul wrote to the Corinthian church. Let’s look closer at the sower, along with the soils into which the seed is sown.

The parables of Jesus use real-life situations to communicate spiritual truths. Hearers received illustrations of farmers, servants, prodigal sons, and tenders of vineyards. Let’s journey through a series on the meaning of ten of these parables, beginning with the sower and his seed.
