The Prodigal Who Didn't Come Home Part 1

September 8, 2017

The Eclipse Of God
Just as the moon obscures the sun’s light during an eclipse, today’s radical secularism has obscured the light of God. But God’s light still shines—and He is calling us to shine His light in our growing darkness. Is God more tolerant than He used to be? Pastor Lutzer shows how God is both a God of wrath as well as grace; that He is both merciful and just, and both a redeemer and a judge. Deepen your love for our unchangeable God of the Bible and be empowered to proclaim the light of truth in a culture of darkness. Some people are troubled by the church offering. They may give grudgingly, to not appear cheap in the eyes of others. But the Bible tells us that God loves a cheerful giver. Each of us must examine our hearts to find our true motivations for contributing.

In Luke chapter sixteen, Jesus told a parable about becoming shrewd managers of money. The lesson is clear: we need to use worldly wealth in a way that brings eternal dividends. In this message we learn what really happens when we give to the Lord.

Some people hold on to money until their knuckles turn white. But true financial freedom comes only when we realize we don’t own anything. We’re only managers of God’s wealth. And investing in His Kingdom brings a return beyond imagination.

Even in times of downturn, the principle of return on investment, or ROI, remains crucial. It’s no less crucial when investing in the Kingdom of God. In this message we learn lessons on investing the money we have, money that actually belongs to someone else.

The widow who put two mites in the temple treasury could not imagine the ultimate interest her gift would draw in the bank of heaven. But God knew, and no doubt He’ll reward her for the faith it took to give all she had. How much faith do we have in these uncertain times?

Rich givers are vital in getting major kingdom projects paid for. Still, it was a giver with limited resources that caught the eye of Jesus in the temple courts. A poor widow’s selfless choice to give is now well known by millions who have learned from her example.

Our financial dealings are never private in the eyes of God. He knows our needs and our resources. He knows what we give, and what we withhold. He’s with us as the offering plate goes by, even when the economy is tanking. And He knows the economy too.
