One Minute After You Die
Many people spend more time planning for a vacation than preparing for eternity. Perhaps it doesn't seem real that we will still exist—fully conscious and alive—beyond the grave. But it's true, and it calls for careful consideration. In this updated edition of One Minute After You Die, bestselling author Erwin Lutzer urges readers to study what the Bible says. Can near-death experiences teach us anything about life after death? How can we prepare for our own final moment? With 700,000 copies in print, this bestselling work makes an encouraging gift for believers and a tasteful word of caution for the undecided. The Bible’s central theme: bringing God and humanity together through an atoning sacrifice on the cross, reconciling the two parties. In the Old Testament, this was prefigured using animals at the Temple. The New Testament unveils the real sacrifice that takes away sin.

In the drama of redemption, the Old Testament is a grand prologue. In the New Testament, the great transaction takes place. Jesus gives His life not far from where Abraham almost offered his son Isaac. No playwright could dream of a story so bold!

The nation of Israel existed as a fulfillment of God’s promises, and Israel was to bring forth a Messiah who would die as an offering for sin and be raised to return one day as King over all the earth.

After seventy years of captivity, Israel’s people were allowed to return home. And that’s where we pick up the story in God’s unfolding saga of redemption. God made salvation possible through a people, a Messiah, and a great sacrifice.

The Old Testament includes many genres: prophecy, history, law, and even wisdom literature such as Psalms and Proverbs. Continuing our high-speed look at the Old Testament, let’s focus on the time when Israel was taken into captivity.
