The Eclipse Of God
Just as the moon obscures the sun’s light during an eclipse, today’s radical secularism has obscured the light of God. But God’s light still shines—and He is calling us to shine His light in our growing darkness. Is God more tolerant than He used to be? Pastor Lutzer shows how God is both a God of wrath as well as grace; that He is both merciful and just, and both a redeemer and a judge. Deepen your love for our unchangeable God of the Bible and be empowered to proclaim the light of truth in a culture of darkness. After seventy years of captivity, Israel’s people were allowed to return home. And that’s where we pick up the story in God’s unfolding saga of redemption. God made salvation possible through a people, a Messiah, and a great sacrifice.

The Old Testament includes many genres: prophecy, history, law, and even wisdom literature such as Psalms and Proverbs. Continuing our high-speed look at the Old Testament, let’s focus on the time when Israel was taken into captivity.

Ancient Israel split in two when King Rehoboam unwisely raised taxes. Ten tribes revolted. Jeroboam became their king, ruling in the north. In the south, two tribes became the kingdom of Judah.

We’re exploring the Drama of Redemption, skimming through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Let’s begin with the Old Testament, and see how God initiates this dramatic story.

Redemption did not begin when Jesus appeared on earth. In the mind of God, it began before the foundations of the world were laid. Genesis 3:15 depicts a promised Redeemer who would one day crush Satan’s head.
February 4, 2016
The sins of mankind separated us from our Creator. But God was not content to let His creation die without hope. He put in motion a plan to redeem those who believe in His sacrifice: Jesus on the cross.
