The Church Is Watchful, Part 3 of 3 (When God Comes To Church)

April 16, 2019

Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. Living a holy life means separating yourself from all that is impure, seeking to walk in love toward God and our neighbors. We live in this way to please God, who commands that we be holy even as He is holy.

Taking a stand for what’s right means going against the prevailing tide. To do this, we need strength from God—a strength that comes from developing a life of prayer. The Apostle Paul modeled this for us in his writings to the church at Thessalonica.

Taking a stand as a church includes helping those who are going through trials. It’s a proactive lifestyle that seeks the best for everyone we encounter, drawing each day from God’s storehouse of grace.

It’s not always popular to be seen taking a stand. But when God comes in unusual power to a church, we often see courage and resolve that was not there before. In this message we learn how the ancient church in Thessalonica took their stand, and how we can follow their example as darkness settles over our land.

Servants continue to serve others even when those they serve don’t appreciate it. They know that God watches their service and is pleased. In this message we learn that a serving church is a church where God’s presence is felt very strongly.
