Dr. Erwin W. Lutzer

Just One in a Crowd Part 3

November 27, 2014

During the days of Jesus, ten lepers were miraculously healed. But only one bothered to thank the one who had healed him. Is it any different today? Thanklessness is a sign of a heart that does not know the God who sustains us every minute.

At Thanksgiving, everybody goes back home to loved ones for that turkey dinner. Some of us give thanks for God’s provision. When ten lepers were healed by Jesus, only one bothered to say thanks. Are you among the nine, or are you the one?

In marriage, two people have to care for each other. This combats our inherent selfishness. In many ways, marriage is a crucible in which character is forged, where happiness is found in pleasing your mate, not yourself.

Those who think marriage is a magic door to happiness should note that half of all marriages fail today. God intended marriage to develop character, and a hard heart can break the bonds between a couple if one will not repent.
November 17, 2014
On their wedding day, few starry-eyed couples realize the searchlight that their marriage will be in revealing the character flaws they both have. Being happy is not the purpose of marriage as far as God is concerned.
November 14, 2014
