Family Conflict Part 2

August 24, 2022

When no one thinks we amount to anything, we are often ignored. Young David had lots of older brothers who overshadowed him as he tended sheep. In this message, we meet his brothers according to their birth order. God used the conflicts of David’s early family life to prepare him to become king.

When You’ve Been Wronged
Conflict in relationships is inevitable, but healing and reconciliation often is not. Time and again we've tried every option and failed, and all we are left with is a load of guilt and pain. Pastor Erwin Lutzer shows how the blessing the Lord gives to those who suffer unjustly is worth the pain involved. He also illustrates the need to leave our broken relationships in the hands of God and move forward in our lives toward freedom. We typically evaluate people by their appearance, personality, or intelligence. But in 1 Samuel 16, we discover that God evaluated the shepherd boy David differently than his brothers. In this message, we follow David’s family tension through God’s selection of a new king. Our God still does great things with those the world sees as insignificant.

When we give to our church, what kind of outcome do we anticipate? Since God’s grace to us abounds, we can practice generosity. In this message, we recognize how giving creates a strong root from which much fruit can grow—fruit that multiplies in the lives of others. Cheerful giving truly brings about a blessed life.

Is there a correspondence between what we give financially and what God is going to give back to us? Scripture reveals God’s heart towards givers. In this message from 2 Corinthians 9, we examine our hearts to find our true motivations for contributing. Imagine the kind of harvest that radical generosity will bring for God’s glory.

How much should we give to God’s work? We reap what we sow. The law of sowing and reaping applies in giving. In this message, we explore the context of Paul’s revolutionary understanding of finances for the church in Corinth. Let’s identify what might hinder us from being cheerful givers.

Money is powerfully deceptive. In Jesus’ parable of the rich man and Lazarus, He reveals how money can blind us to what’s on the other side of eternity. In this message, we learn the most vital lesson about wise money management. If we are seduced by the love of money, our eternal destiny and our reward hangs in the balance.

Pastor Erwin Lutzer says, “If money becomes our God, it will eventually become our devil.” In Luke 16, Jesus gave us a parable about shrewdly managing money. In this message, we reflect on how to turn worldly wealth into eternal dividends. Where we invest our money reveals our ultimate loyalties.

Our financial well-being can be a heavy weight on our shoulders. But true financial freedom comes when we realize we are mere stewards. In this message, we focus on God’s foundational principles for wise money management. What difference would it make if we lived like everything we have belongs to God?

Even in economic downturns, the principle of return on investment, or ROI, remains crucial. In Luke 16, Jesus’ parable appears to justify dishonest investing, but a careful reading takes us deeper. In this message, we apply the first of five biblical principles of money management. Will our investments today pass the test?

The widow who put two mites in the temple treasury could not imagine the ultimate return on investment her gift would draw in heaven. In this message, Pastor Lutzer introduces us to Joni Eareckson Tada, a woman who’s had an impact in the crucible of her desperate suffering. In these uncertain times, how can our hearts and wallets reflect Christ’s beauty?

God never lets us see all the good we do. The widow who gave two mites probably had no idea what impact she would have. In this message, we consider two lessons from this dear widow whom Jesus noticed. If her modest gift was not to show off to others, what compelled her to give so sacrificially?
