Death To Self-Will, Part 3 of 3 (Brokenness)

June 28, 2019

For some, finding God’s will is hard. On the other hand, Jonah knew with precision what God’s will was. And yet he still did his own thing. In this message, we turn again to Jonah chapter one for more details on the life of a disobedient prophet, a man determined to avoid doing God’s will.

Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. The glory of God is ultimately all that matters. It transcends our trials, our needs, and even our lives. Moses learned this on Mount Sinai. We too must treasure that glory as we obey the command to pray without ceasing.

“O Lord, show me Your glory.” The words of Moses take us to the final end of praying. It’s not just for our needs. Ultimately, prayer is about gaining intimacy with God. In this message we learn about praying for the glory of God.

Is prayer only about asking for needs to be met, or is there a deeper purpose? There is an underlying reason why we’re commanded to pray. It’s all about developing intimacy with God Himself. In this message, we continue our journey toward meaningful prayer.

When we learn to pray for the world, our minds and hearts are expanded. We see earth as the planet God visited with a promise of redemption. Our prayers need to focus on the missionaries dedicated to reaching this needy world.

When it seems that evil is winning, we need to look at the end of the Bible. Revelation chapter five tells of people from every nation and language reigning on the earth as redeemed saints. Praying for the world is God’s will, and our privilege.

It’s one thing to pray for people you know, or your church or your city. But at some point, we need to get our heads around the entire planet. Billions of lost people are sheep without a shepherd, and God wants us to pray for the world that many might believe.

The human needs in any great city are almost unimaginable. As believers, we’re called to pray for the cities we live in, and in this message you’ll hear strategies to effectively do just that.
