A Bad Man Made Good Part 2

July 11, 2013

We are all sinners, yet we can be made good. Our desires can change, but they can only be changed by God. You need a love for Him, His word, and a love for others. You need a sense of brokenness and humility. These can only be implanted into your heart by God.

In order to come clean and walk in the true light, confession and restoration must be as wide as the offense—both with God and with others. Are you going to receive God’s full blessing or not?

If you want to walk in the true light, you have to agree with God on everything. You have to come clean not just with God, but with others as well.

We like to think of ourselves as basically good people who make mistakes, not as sinners desperately needing the grace of God. But if you don’t see yourself as a sinner, you don’t see a need for redemption.

Throughout the Bible we see the contrast of darkness and light—darkness is sin, and light is God. Pastor Lutzer shows us that we have our own kingdoms—career, money, even our giftedness —and how we can easily fall into the same snare as Saul did. By comparing David’s reaction to Saul’s attacks, we also learn what we can do to keep from sinning.

Trying to hold on to his kingdom by destroying those around him, King Saul gives us a good example of how an obsession with control can become evil.
July 2, 2013
Control lies at the heart of sin. We’re all born controllers. But when does wanting to control something become, not just a sin, but evil?

Jesus can deliver you from any addiction. God wants to deliver us from sin. He sent His Son to die so that we could experience freedom from sin. The transformation occurs when our love for Christ is greater than our love of sin. When we humbly submit to the will of God, He will begin to change our desires until eventually seeking and loving God is more important than seeking our next “fix.”
