You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling

February 12, 2019

Although a marriage relationship can feel as though the loving feeling has been lost, it is still possible to enliven the relationship by doing the things, big or small, that worked in the first place. Similarly, when a relationship with the Lord feels dry, we can press in and pray, spend time with Him, and trust that the feelings will follow the actions.

God designed sex to stay within marriage, yet we live in a culture that has made it normal to be used for mere enjoyment without boundaries. No matter what other people say or think, the Bible is clear and in order to keep ourselves from consequences we must choose to live our lives in obedience to God and His design and encourage others to do the same.

It is easy for us to remain lukewarm, using only our words to show that we believe in Christ. The Bible tells us that we must choose to follow Him with our whole heart, allowing Him to lead us in every way. Although straddling the fence feels like indecision to you, it is a decision to God because anything less than serving Him is serving the devil.

When we give our lives to Christ, God declares us to be blameless and holy so we need to live that way. Too often we choose to go back to old sin habits rather than living in the way that God has called us to. God is capable of restoring us from all our mistakes, but we need to be willing to allow Him to change us and take the next steps of obedience.

A lot of people choose not to go to church or believe in God because of the hypocrisy of those who claim to have a relationship with God. We must not try to look like we have everything together. The best witness is showing people that although we have struggles in our lives, a relationship with God is a growing process, not perfection.

At some point in our lives God gives us a calling, however it is common for many to ignore it. The reason we ignore the calling that God gives is because we think that by following His calling we will lose our life, all the while overlooking the fact that we already lost it by not following God’s call.

Too many Christians get saved and stay in their sin, finding anyone who will tell them that they’re doing just fine and don’t have to change anything. God wants us to be in a growing relationship with Him that requires sacrifice of our own desires and laying down our lives in obedience to Him.

Too often we turn to things such as alcohol to fulfill our lives and we are let to drunkenness that makes us act like fools. Beginning a relationship with Jesus is the only thing that truly fulfills us. It may make us look silly to others, but the love, joy, peace and other fruits of the Spirit is proof to everyone that we have something they need.

It is absolutely essential that we stay focused on the finish line and pay attention so as to not fall into the devil’s traps. Contrary to common thought, he does not sneak up on us but rather prowls around like a roaring lion that we can identify and avoid if we remain aware.

From the Garden to the cross, a tree has been the central figure to our salvation. The word “bole” means the trunk of a tree. The biggest super bole we can ever see is the life that comes from the tree of life in Christ.

Just like a business will die if there are not people within the business being trained to keep it going, the Church suffers when we do not hand on what God has given us to others. When we spiritually mature, it should be natural that we teach others what we have learned and in doing so, show them how to do the same for the purpose of continually growing the Church.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
