While it’s okay for awhile to be a born again infant Christian who is learning everything for the first time, at some point we need to be growing into spiritually mature adult Christians. The more we grow, the more we realize that it’s not all about me but rather about everyone else, and we participate in serving the Body of Christ by being a functioning member that looks out for all the other members.

Jesus told His disciples numerous times that He would die and be raised from the dead, yet they were still shocked when it happened. We know that unless Jesus comes back we are all going to die, and God calls us to believe and repent before then. We must wake up and obey His call before it’s too late.

Instead of living a carefree lifestyle that blows caution to the wind and takes part in all sorts of sin, we need to submit our lives to God let Him live in us and through us. When we follow in step with obedience to the things He calls us to do in every detail of our lives, we will get to watch Him do extraordinary things in and around us.

Too often we put God on the throne of our lives for a period of time, but continually remove Him when we feel like we can do a better job taking things over. In the end we will all submit to His kingship, and it’s better to yield our whole lives over to Him now.

The issue of racism is not a government problem but rather a church problem. It is our job as Christians to treat all believers as family, as brothers and sisters because in Christ there is no distinction. The only thing that can keep us together as family regardless of differences is love.

When it comes to life after death we can all try to imagine what it will be like. The Bible promises us that we will be in one of two places: heaven for those who believe in Christ and accept Him as Savior, or hell for those who do not. Rather than being content with this life, we must look past the world to what lies ahead and make a decision to either own heaven as our home or to be left only ever imagining what it would be like.

When we speak up about the difference that Jesus has made in our lives, religious people hate it. They hated Jesus for the miracles He performed and the truth that He spoke, yet He did not back down and it eventually got Him to the cross. We must be willing to speak up for Jesus everywhere we go, even if one day it becomes illegal.

The Bible is clear that the only way for us to be saved from our sin is through Jesus Christ. Though many people try to make up for their mistakes with good actions or even believe that they don’t have sin in their lives, we are all physically born into spiritual sin and must be spiritually born again through Jesus Christ to be saved.

Because of Christ and His sacrifice we are made righteous and are able to stand in the gap for someone as a connection between them and God. The way we do this is through prayer, protecting them through prayer from evil. There are many people in our lives who need to know God and who are hurting without Him and so rather than put it off on someone else we need to be the ones standing in the gap for them.

It’s easy to get impatient when God takes time to answer our prayers. What we must realize is that there are other spiritual things going on and it can take time for angels to come to our aid because of the battle they face. The Bible tells us to keep asking God no matter how long it takes because if we’re asking for things He has put on our heart then He will answer in His time.

In the Old Testament we see that the Israelites had turned from God to find satisfaction in other things and that did not work out well for them. We often do that in our own lives, building our own cisterns to hold water that falls through the cracks and holes while God, the fountain of life, is waiting for us all along.

About Richard Ellis

Authentic... Genuine... Sincere... This guy is the real deal. He loves God. He loves his wife Rebecca and his 3 daughters. He loves people. He loves his job. He loves Texas BBQ. He loves an occasional round of golf. And he loves the Dallas Cowboys (but don’t hold that against him!).

Richard grew up as a missionary kid in Brazil, coming back to the states to finish his education. He graduated from Baylor University in 1982 with a BA in Oral Communications, and earned his MDIV in 1985 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, making him the sixth generation of pastors in his family. His early days of ministry included serving for three years as the Single Adults Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Dallas.

Then in 1997, Richard Ellis founded Reunion Church, a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, non-denominational church in the heart of Dallas,Texas. Dallas needed a church like it. And it would need a pastor like Richard. So Reunion Church was born. And now the radio show and the website (www.RichardEllisTalks.com) join the Reunion Church community under the leadership of this guy. And we’re all the better for it!
